Congratulations on being a part of the Piney Grove Players’ production of Shrek!
Every year, the students and staff look forward to the PGMS musicals. Our past productions include The Lion King, The Music Man, Alice in Wonderland, Guys and Dolls, Annie, Willy Wonka, Peter Pan, and High School Musical, with each production being bigger and better than the one before it. Students are involved in nearly every aspect of the show. They assist with vocal rehearsals and creating choreography, they help to build and paint sets and props, they are the stage crew, they help with hair, make-up, and costumes, and they sell tickets and distribute promotional flyers. The musical has something for everyone!
In addition to putting on a show, students involved in the PGMS musicals learn what it is like to work together to put on a large stage production. Students rely on each other to help learn their lines, to rehearse their dance routines, and even need each other's help getting their hair and make-up ready for the show! They learn to work together to achieve a goal, which is to put on a great show for a large audience, and they certainly do that! Students involved in the musicals are also able to work on their own individual talents. Whether they are new to the stage or veterans of past PGMS productions, all the students involved become a little more confident and make some new friends along the way. This year’s production, Shrek, will surely be the same type of splendid production and will afford Piney Grove Students the same engaging opportunities of being involved in every aspect of bringing a Broadway show to life on the stage.
To assist us with purchasing the rights to perform the show, scripts, costumes, props, and materials needed to build the sets, cast members will need to pay a production fee of $85. This fee will cover the cost of each cast member’s script and cast t-shirt, and will also help to purchase set building materials, props, and costumes for the show, in addition to paying for the use of the South Forsyth High School Performing Arts Center. This production fee is due to Mrs. Steinberg no later than Wednesday November 16th. We are also in need of parent volunteers to help with this production. Please see the Cast Member Info Sheet for more ways you can be of assistance.
Parents and students are also asked to sign up with Mrs. Steinberg to receive text message updates and reminders through the Remind app. There are 2 ways to receive updates and reminders from Mrs. Steinberg:
1. Send a text message to 81010 with the message @pgmusical.
2. Download the Remind app and enter the class code @pgmusical.
This is a one-way communication tool – students and parents will not be able to reply to texts or see the information or phone numbers of other subscribers. Parents and students are also encouraged to become familiar with the PGMS Drama website, where they will find rehearsal calendars, scene breakdowns, and other important information. If the level of student involvement and achievement of previous year’s productions is any indicator, I would say we can expect great things from the cast of Shrek. The next few months are going to be very exciting! As always, please contact me with any questions or concerns.
