Visual Timetable USER Guide:

The Visual timetable software is available form the Down’s Syndrome Association via the Website that supports the EDUCATION SUPPORT DISC FOR SCHOOLS. Currently: http://www.include.demon.co.uk/educationsupportdisc

The educations support disc contains additional resources, publications and links to support the Education Support Disc for Schools. A direct link to this area is available from the disc. This area contains only the additional material that was published or submitted after the production of the original support disc, so to have access to the full range of resources and publications please purchase the original disc. Contact the association on the numbers at the bottom of this page to order your copy.

On clicking on the link you will be asked if you want to trust this software from and unknown publisher click on ‘yes’ it will then ask if you want to run or save the file. Advanced users can save the file to a space on their hard disc and install from there. Generally choose YES, RUN and OK to install it direct to your computer. Microsoft Vista users may be asked again to install using the correct settings, choose ‘Install again using correct settings’.

Visual timetable will be installed to C:/timetable and you can then run it from the programme menu of your computer. Click on the clock face named ‘Visual timetable’ to run the software. The following screen should appear:

The program comes with 44 ready made pictures covering infant junior and secondary activities; you can add more images from your computer or digital camera by clicking on the import picture from file Icon.

Your new pictures will appear at the beginning of the picture gallery.

You can delete imported pictures by dragging them top the Bin Icon while holding down the shift key. ( you cannot delete the original 44 pictures by this method) There are 4 different formats of timetable layout that can be accessed via the timetable option menu.

You can rename any pictures by clicking in the text box and typing as required. ( you can also change the text in the DAY box on the Daily Timetable layout.)

Save

You can save a copy of your timetable using the save Icon. ( if you use imported pictures that you later delete they may not be visible when you reload the saved Timetable) Open

You can open your saved timetables by using the Open Icon.

Print

Clicking on the Print icon will print the current timetable. It will print on the current default printer from your computer. (If you wish to print to a different printer the printer settings would need to be changed before you click on the print icon)

Quit

To quit the program simply use the quit icon. You will be asked to confirm that you want to quit.

This covers the basic functions of the programme suitable to most users. Not for the fainthearted: Advanced options.

For network users and advanced users it is possible to change the file location of all the default folders. Use the “shift T” option to locate these functions.

The default location of all the timetable folders is C:\timetable\ it is possible to edit, delete and rename the existing default pictures by going into the \metafiles folder and changing the content or renaming them so that they appear in a different order in the image bank. This folder can be used to import or delete multiple images for convenience. Similarly the images in the \Imported folder can be manipulated in the same way. TROUBLESHOOTING.

If things go wrong simply reinstall the software and start again. (That will also replace the pictures folder with the default 44 pictures) The timetable software can be used at a simple level to sequence any series of events, not just curriculum, it may be particularly useful in some instances to use it to sequence difficult to remember activities or to reinforce positive behaviour, show rewards or outcomes for successfully completing activities etc. For technical support email [email protected]
