Pre race swab samples were taken from HOT BROMAC and GO LIKA SAAB LOMBO.

MES ELSU NZ which raced at the Launceston Pacing Club on the 13th April 2014 underwent a pre race veterinary examination and was passed fit to run.

Prior to the event trainer Rodney Ashwood (GO LIKA SAAB LOMBO) advised stewards that it was their intention to restrain the horse at the start and drive the horse back in tonight’s event. A public announcement to this effect was made.

GO LIKA SAAB LOMBO was out of position at the start. Connections were advised that the horse has been placed on its’ last chance in the mobile start draw.

THE FAMILY GUY was out of position at the start and will continue to be placed out of the draw in future mobile start events.

HOT BROMAC broke free of interference and cast a plate as it did so racing into the back straight on the first occasion. Connections have been advised that the horse has been placed on its last chance to race truly.

HEY HARDY NZ pulled hard during the event and then shifted out under pressure in the home straight.

The all clear to this event was delayed as driver Brent Parish (THE FAMILY GUY) asked to view the concluding stages of the event. The films established that SALOON IN SIGHT had not gone inside marker pegs in the home straight. All clear was then given on the judge’s numbers.

THE FAMILY GUY was disappointed for a clear run until close to the winning post.

Post race swab samples were taken from SALOON IN SIGHT the winner of the event.

Stewards queried driver Nicholas Brockman (HEY HARDY NZ) as to the gelding’s performance in tonight’s event as the beaten $2.70 favourite. Mr Brockman explained that

Street Address: Level 2, Henty House, 1 Civic Square, Launceston Tasmania 7250 Postal Address: P O Box 1329, Launceston, Tasmania 7250 the gelding had become fired up in the preliminary and that he had followed driving instructions, which were to go forward and lead, however he was unable to settle the gelding which pulled hard before tiring in the home straight.. Stewards also noted that HEY HARDY NZ also shifted out under pressure in the early stages of the home straight and as a result SALOON IN SIGHT obtained an inside run. Stewards took no action against driver Nicholas Brockman. RACE 2 – TOP OF THE TOWN BAKERY STAKES DIVISION ONE – 2090 METRES Pre race swab samples were taken from CHAMPAGNE ROBBIE and ORIGIN BILLY. BOTHWELL EXPRESS which commenced to tire from the 600 metres underwent a post race veterinary examination which revealed the gelding had pulled up in a distressed condition. Driver Adrian Collins reported that he had pulled a flat tyre for the last half lap. Connections were advised that the gelding, which finished distanced, has been stood down from racing for a period of ten days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial. TAHLIA MISS was held up for clear racing room in the early stages of the home straight. Driver Phil Mascall (ORIGIN BILLY) was reprimanded under the provisions of AR 156(3) (b) for his excessive whip action over the concluding stages. Driver Lyarna Graham (ILL AT EASE) was reminded of her obligations whilst trailing horses. Stewards inquired into the reasons for ABOYCALLEDSU racing rough entering the back straight on the first occasion. After taking evidence from drivers Todd Rattray (ROCKET SEAL) and Matthew Howlett (ABOYCALLEDSU) it was established that Mr Rattray, whilst racing outside the leader, then commenced to restrain, ABOYCALLSU then also restrained and whilst being restrained raced ungenerously and was then contacted from behind by ORIGIN BILLY which raced roughly, checking CHAMPAGNE ROBBIE and inconveniencing TAHLIA MISS and FLYLIKA HAWK. Stewards formed the view that no one driver was responsible for the interference and that the racing manners of ABOYCALLEDSU were the main contributing factor to the interference. Post race swab samples were taken from ILL AT EASE the winner of the event. RACE 3 – BENNETT’S PETROLEUM NEW NORFOLK MOBILE DIVISION TWO – 2090 METRES Pre race swab samples were taken from RHETTS WAY and BETA BOLT. TINKERS TAXI pulled hard whilst being restrained in a three wide position in the early stages of the event. As a result BETTOR MOVE, which was trailing that gelding round the first turn, was obliged to race four wide for a short distance.

BETTOR MOVE then broke under pressure at the 200 metres, inconveniencing MODERN HITCH and RED BLISTER and checking POKER STORM.

A post race veterinary examination of BETTOR MOVE showed the gelding to have cross fired during the event and after taking evidence from trainer Zeke Slater, connections were advised that the gelding has been stood down from racing for a period of 10 days and until the completion of a satisfactory trial.

RACE 6 – BRUCE & SHARON ROOKE MEMORIAL – 2090 METRES

Pre race swab samples were taken from LOUI STUART and VILLIFY.

PODARKES contacted the barrier arm shortly before the release point.

HELEN WHEELS pulled hard in the early stages of the event whilst racing outside of the leader.

VILLIFY was held up for clear racing room rounding the home turn.

Stewards queried driver Adrian Collins (BUMBLE DON) as to his driving tactics in tonight’s event. Mr Collins explained his instructions had been to go forward and sit outside the leader from his favourable draw. Mr Collins added that he was hampered in his efforts by LOUI STUART, which was pulling hard whilst racing three wide to his inside and as a result was unable to get to a position one off the pegs for some distance. Mr Collins further stated that the gelding then failed to run the race out from the 200 metres. Stewards accepted Mr Collin’s explanation.

Post race swab samples were taken from STAMPEEDING the winner of the event.

RACE 7 – LIFE MEMBERS PLATE – 2090 METRES

METRO DIGBY hung out and then broke free of interference at the 800 metres. Connections have been advised that the gelding has been placed on its last chance to race truly. When queried trainer/driver Paul Williams stated that he had recently changed gear on the horse and that the horse had trialled satisfactorily, however it was his intention to reassess the horses gear prior to racing again. A post race veterinary examination revealed no apparent abnormalities. Mr Williams was found guilty of a charge under AR 156(3)(b) for his excessive whip action over the concluding stages. Mr Williams was fined the sum of $400.
