ORDER OF BUSINESS: I. After a quorum was established, the meeting was called to order by President Roger Short
II. The Board entered into closed session under Texas Government Code Section 551.072 and 551.074 at 6:32 p.m. and reconvened at 6:59 p.m. for action related to the items discussed.
III. Laurie Cizon introduced Teacher of the Year finalists. DeVonna Clark and Traci Prather are secondary teachers and Jerry Ulibarri and Tricia Cook are elementary teachers. The CISD Teachers of the Year will be named May 5th.
IV. Laurie Cizon introduced CHS National Forensics qualifiers to the Board. They will compete in Birmingham, AL in the summer.
V. Motion by Mr. Murphy, seconded by Mr. Darnell, to approve March 9, 2009 minutes. Motion carried unanimously.
VI. Mr. Wartes reported enrollment of 8515 for today.
VII. Mr. Wartes shared end of year activity dates with the Board. Next board meeting is April 27. VIII. TAKS results were shared from recent ELA testing.
IX. Motion by Mrs. Hinders, seconded by Mr. Spradlin to certify unopposed candidates and cancel the Board of Trustees election. Motion carried unanimously.
X. Motion by Mr. Darnell, seconded by Mrs. Stephens to approve the monthly financial report for February 2009 and the quarterly report as submitted. Motion carried unanimously.
XI. Motion by Mr. Murphy, seconded by Mrs. Stephens to award bids for electrical supplies and equipment as submitted. Motion carried unanimously.
XII. Motion by Mr. Hinders, seconded by Mr. Spradlin to approve a one-year extension with ARAMARK for the 2009-2010 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
XIII. Motion by Mr. Murphy, seconded by Mr. Darnell to renew the bank depository contract with Happy State Bank for the 2009-2011 biennium. Motion carried with 5 yes votes and 1 abstaining. Linda Hinders abstained due to conflict of interest.
XIV. Randy McDowell presented a construction update.
XV. Motion by Mrs. Stephens, seconded by Mr. Darnell to authorize administration to employ personnel for the 2009-2010 school year. Motion carried unanimously.
XVI. Motion by Mr. Spradlin, seconded by Mr. Murphy to accept the following donations with gratitude: $250 from Beaton’s Auto Sales for RHS Girls Golf program $14.90 from James Cadenhead for RHS Girls Golf program $2796.20 from Arden Road PTA in book fair profits for Arden Road library $1661.46 from Crestview PTA in book fair profits for Crestview library $360 from RCI Texas Partners, L.P. for CHS Girls Cross Country program $2039.84 from Gene Howe PTA in book fair profits for Gene Howe library $300 from Amarillo ISD athletic department for CHS Baseball program $2869 from Canyon Booster Club for CHS Boys Basketball program $1500 in Canyon Education Foundation grants from Shelly Paschal, Diana Attridge, and Kelly Moore to purchase handheld Senteo devices for classrooms at Canyon Intermediate $2000 in Canyon Education Foundation grants from Kelli Mooring, Rolland Shippy, Marlene Taylor and Preston Tirey to purchase handheld Senteo devices for classrooms at Canyon Intermediate
Motion carried unanimously. XVII. Motion by Mrs. Hinders, seconded by Mr. Darnell to employ Josh Quebe, Crissy McDaniel, Carolyn Covin, Cindy Bradburn, Paralyn Moore, Nina Hough, Linda Cavitt, Diedra Polley, Lisa Luper, Wendy Peeples and Julie Easterly for the 2009-2010 school year subject to local salary schedule and assignment by the Superintendent. Motion carried unanimously.
XVIII. There being no further business, the meeting was adjourned.
