AUTOBIOGRAPHY
György Geiger Was born in Homokmégy, on the third of august in 1944. After graduating Béla Bartók Conservatory of Music, he continued his studies at the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music. He received his artist’s diploma there, at the age of 23. At the age of 20, while still studying during at the academy, he began working as first trumpet player int he Orchestra of the Budapest State Opera Hause, where he played fo four years. In 1969 he moved to the Symphony Orchestra of the Hungarian Radio Radio as solo trumpetplayer, and has worked there since. György Geiger has been twice awarde the special prize of the president of the Gungarian Radio for his otstanding solo recordings. In 1975 the Modern Brass Ensemble ws fouded under his leadeship. Later, in 1979, they wonthe Internatiional Brass Competition in Ancona, Italy. After that he has been also inwited there as jury member. He has been continuosly teaching at the Teacher’s Istitute of the Ferenc Liszt Academy of Music since 1979. In 1980 he was awarded with the Ferenc Liszt Prize, and also with thw Prize, and also with the Prize of the Hungarian ARTISJUS for the introduction of the contemporary Hungarian music. In 1984 he was invited to the Annual Comference of the International Trumpet Guild in Albuquerque, New Mexico, USA, to give a lecture and a solo concert. In 1987 he wa invited to Geneva, Switzerland as jury member, to the jury member, to the Geneva International Trumpet Competition. The first solo album from György Geiger was issued in 1986 with the „Trompet Plays”. His second album was issued in 1990 – classical trumpet concertoes an chamber music. In 1992, 1994 and 1996 he received the ARTISJUS again. His first CD was edited in 1994 – „Classica Gems” with an accompainment of harp. György Geiger has premiered several trumpet concertoes that were written for him. Most of them has been recorded for Hungarian Radio, or edited ont he albums of composers (Endre Székely, Ervin Jereb, Frigyes Hidas, Kamillo Lendvai, László Dubrovai, Emil Petrovics). His third CD contains contemporatry music pieces, and was published in 1997. In 1998 György Geiger was awarded the Prize of the Hungarian Radio for premiering and recording the trumpet concerto Written by Miklós Malek. In 1997 the best production of the year, he got eMeRTon award. In 1998 Inter Lyra Prize. In 1999 He got a „Dohnányi-award” as the best musition of the Hungarian Radio Orchestra. In 2000, the 15 of March he got the Hungarian Republic Merited Artist prize. In 2003 „Triok Törleivel” CD appairs with Ingrid Kertesi and Éva Maros. He wrotes here his own transcription. W.G Haas editioner in Cologne published 23 classical trompet-harp- pianotranscription as a name of „György Geiger Erlebnis Trompete”. In 2004 Contemporary Hungarian Trompet Concertoes CD, Baroque Concertoes for Trompet, CD. In 2009, he was honored the with the highest artist’s prize of the Hungarian Republic the Kossuth.
