4. MAJOR ISSUES AND DATES

June 24, 2009: Chairman presented overview of changes from PSL 3 Castings WG at the ISO10423 Revisions meeting. Several members of the PSL3 Castings workgroup were present. However, the proposed ballot wording has not achieved alignment between ISO and 6A.

After the meeting Alfred Kruijer (ISO) and Sterling Lewis (API) meet to discuss and resolve differences. Results of the meeting are proposed as the Future Work Program.

5. FUTURE WORK PROGRAM

5.1 Propose new a work item for API 6D. Work item would recommend creation of a new Annex that provides an option for specifying API 6A PSL3 type requirements.

5.2 The API work group will reconvene and propose new wording to achieve the following:

 Within a given PSL, castings and forgings should possess an equivalent integrity level. This would be in alignment with recommended practice for PSL selection in Annex A of ISO10423/API6A.

 There is a shared conviction that for appropriate design, quality and manufacture requirement combinations, such equivalence can be obtained for PSL1 and PSL2

 PSL 3 may not result in equivalence. For those forgings would be the only option.

 To discover when equivalence is assured, a research project proposal should be developed.

-2- 27-Jun-07  Update the proposed new clause A.6 providing guidance on the use of castings. Remove table proposed for clause A.6. The table would not be necessary since equivalent integrity is achieved between PSLs for castings and forgings.

 Consider any implications to the description of PSL in Clause 1.4.

5.3 ISO 10423 is ready for FDIS ballot. When the results of work group become available, amendments to the published editions of ISO and API can be balloted.

5.4 Communicate and get alignment with ISO 10423 chairmen on future work proposed above.

6. FUTURE MEETINGS DATES

None scheduled.

7. RESOURCE NEEDS

7.1 Resource or research project to write a technical report that identifies methods to achieve equivalent integrity between PSL 1 and PSL 2 for forgings and castings.

Methods could include requirement changes in:

 NDE

 Casting supply chain qualification and surveillance (SC20)

 Weld repair

 FAT Testing

 Design (wall thickness / stress)

7.2 Resource to write a technical report to API staff to demonstrate that that there are sufficient technical differences between castings and forgings and that the two are not interchangeable in all applications. i.e. PSL3 service applications in Annex A are not appropriate for castings.
