POW/MIA Recognition Day of Observance 10th Anniversary – September 21st (Friday) 1:30PM held at the Vietnam Garden, Vancouver VA Medical Center. This event is sponsored by Elite Care. Guest speakers will include Royce Pollard, Dale Bowlin, and Dan Herrigstad.

26th Annual Veterans Parade at Fort Vancouver – November 10th, 11:00 AM, community parade presented by Lough Legacy. 10:00 AM will be the Reception prior to the parade. This year’s Reviewing Officer will be Joe Jackson, a Medal of Honor Recipient.

Veterans Day Ceremony – November 11th, 11:00 AM, at the Post Cemetery (on 4th Plain by the I-5 Exit, across the street from the VA Medical Center). Guest Speaker will be Brigadier General Bruce W. Prunk, who also retired as the Assistant Chief of Police from the Portland Police Bureau.

Northwest Historical Perspectives – Frank Krone announced that they will be having lectures on the Battle of Shilo and 10 Historical Forts here in the Northwest. Sept. 22nd a lecture of 7 fugitive slaves here in the Northwest around 1860, Sept. 29th a Rededication at the River View Cemetery, and Nov. 10th another Rededication at the Lone Fir Cemetery. Hunting with Heroes – October 12th thru 14th Hunting trip held at the Klickitat Ranch on the Klickitat River. This year we are trying to sponsor 50 Veterans for a free Hunting, Fishing, and Boating experience. Concert will be held the last day at the Klickitat Ranch and everyone is welcomed. Vancouver Elks Lodge “Veterans Dinner” – November 13th, (11605 SE McGillivray Blvd.). Free Dinner to all Veterans and their families starting at 5:30 PM. Program will start at 7:00 PM.

Work Source SW Washington Veterans Hiring Event – November 15th, Armed Forces Reserve Center (15005 NE 65th Street, Vancouver, Wa), 8:00AM-8:30AM. Employer Set-up, 8:45AM-9:00AM Opening Ceremony and remarks, 9:00AM – 12:00PM Hiring Event. Employers: Registration is free and includes a table, two chairs, and access to a diverse talent pool. Healing on the Homefront – This program is designed to assist military and Veteran’s families by offering community resources, solution based workshops, and family counseling. Veteran’s Therapeutic Court will assist those who are facing challenges such as combat trauma, and as a result entered the criminal justice system for low offenses. The Veteran must plead guilty to receive intense supervision and court-ordered treatment for a minimum of 12 months. Non-compliance can include jail time. Five Star Auto Body (3019 NE 68th Street, Vancouver, Wa, 360-699-4887) is asking for your support by having body repairs and painting done on your auto. 10% of the proceeds will go to the Clark County Veterans Court. Coupon expires December 31, 2012.

Human Services Council – The Southwest Washington Region covers Clark, Cowlitz, Wahkiakum, Klickitat, and Skamania Counties. Transportation options, specifically traveling to VA Medical Services are available to Veterans on either a Fixed Route or Demand-Response Transportation. This is available to Medicaid-coverage individuals where Medicaid will cover the transportation costs for the recipient. Call 360-694-9997 for more information or to schedule a ride. Won World – First campaign is “Honor our Heroes” designed to help our military heroes and their families in need of assistance with a relief fund. We are selling bracelet bands for $5 each, color matching with branch of service. We are hoping to raise over $300 Million with various military relief funds. Links – Involved in the community disbursing food, juices, and personal care products to families, homeless, emergency situations, veterans, and several others in need. These items come directly from donations. Just recently, we shipped 300,000 lbs. of juice to various local military events, public events, and organizations. Any used paperback or hardbound books can be donated to the VA Medical Center or the Vancouver Parks and Recreation Marshal Center. Drop-off box is located in the lobby. These books will be shipped to the Soldiers serving abroad.
