President – Jasie Stokes ([email protected]) ● Welcome to new representatives ○ Who GSC is: we are the representatives for graduate students to the Student Government Association as well as University administration by meeting monthly with the Deans of SIGS as well as serving on SGA, administrative and university- wide committees ● Overview of GSC’s mission and goals ○ We also want to build a strong graduate student community by networking professionally and socially with each other ● Summer Picnic, Fall Events, Research Symposium ○ Picnic will coincide with graduate orientation next year ○ Working with the SAB to plan a “Night at the Planetarium” which is in November ○ No Cressman Center event this year ■ What events would you like to see in October? ○ We will have another science center event next spring as well as continuing our collaboration with the “Day at the Downs” event ○ Research Symposium: ■ Research fund that we currently receive should be connected to Research Symposium-->make it a competitive process with the award in the thousands instead of the hundreds-->winning a research award requires that students present in the Research Symposium ■ More discussion to follow-->please volunteer for the committee

Travel Administrator – Dave Jensen ([email protected]) ● Updated/ simplified paperwork ● New web page ● New online application portal ● Instant approval of travel request ● Streamlining TEV approvals ● Possible reformatting of funding: increases across the board

**SPECIAL GUEST FROM THE IDEA FESTIVAL**  Kris Kimel  Like Sundance for ideas and innovation  Website is: www.ideafestival.com  4 day festival with 45 events and 3 receptions  September 24-27 at the Kentucky Center and surrounding buildings  Old Business ● None.

New Business ● Change GSC meeting time to 7:30pm; passed. ● Table the vote to increase travel funding awards; passed.

Upcoming Events ● Boardgame night on September 16th from 6pm-9pm at Bearno’s on Bardstown Rd. ● Ice cream social for international students with the Deans of SIGS on September 4th.
