Crescent Hill Tree Planting Program The Crescent Hill Community Council (CHCC) has funds to plant a limited number of trees by November 15th. If you are a member of the neighborhood association or become a member and are interested in participating in this program, please reply as soon as possible to Tim Allen at [email protected]. The CHCC will pay half of the cost to purchase the tree. The resident or business pays the other half. Planting is offered as a free service. Learn more.

Bluegrass Bioneers Conference The Bluegrass Bioneers conference will take place November 2-4 at the University of Louisville. The event is part of the national Bioneers Conference – the country’s “leading-edge forum & environmental conference – where social & scientific innovators focus on solutions inspired by nature & human ingenuity.”

The goal of the Bluegrass Bioneers Conference is to provide a collaborative space that unites passionate people and transformational ideas for a future built on greater environmental, social and economic responsibility and to uncover and promote “practical environmental solutions and innovative strategies for restoring the Earth and communities.” The local conference will stream national conference speakers (including Bill McKibben, Paul Hawken, and Sandra Steingraber), and include information tailored for Louisville from local presenters. Apply to be part of the Bingham Fellows Class of 2013 Leadership Louisville Center’s 2013 Bingham Fellows topic is “Developing a Smart Food Culture.” This is an issue of vital importance, and the participants who ultimately take part will have the chance to implement significant positive changes for our community. They are currently seeking community leaders with expertise in nutrition, food economy, or just great thinkers who care about this topic. Applications will be accepted now through Nov. 9. MSD Wants YOU to Share your Thoughts MSD is excited to announce the next sewer overflow abatement project review and input public meeting. MSD is holding these meetings to keep you informed. They are seeking public input from you so that these specific projects and property decisions can reflect concerns of the people that are directly impacted. MSD encourages your participation so that we can work together to create a clean, green, growing community. Meeting 1 - Louisville Urban League, 1535 W Broadway, Thursday, November 8th at 6:00 p.m. Meeting 2 – East Government Center, 200 Juneau Drive, Tuesday, November 13th at 6:00 p.m. Meeting 3 - Southwest Government Center, 7219 Dixie Highway, Thursday, November 15th at 6:00 p.m. Learn more, and find out where to send written comments if you cannot attend one of these meetings.

9th District Fall Community Cleanup In partnership with Brightside we will be cleaning up around the 9th District on Saturday, October 27, 2012, from 8:30 am – Noon. Plan to meet in the lower parking lot of Mellwood Arts Center at 8:30 am. Enjoy donated breakfast sandwiches from the Clifton McDonalds and hot coffee from Heine Brothers’ Coffee. At 9:00 a.m. volunteers will focus on cleaning up along the Mellwood/Zorn corridor, especially the Zorn/Mellwood Avenue entrance. We’ll provide FREE bags, gloves, tools and t-shirts will be available on a first-come, first-serve basis. If there is a spot that you’d like to clean up, stop by the Mellwood Art Center lower parking lot and pick up tools and bags. Sustainability Tip – Lead Safety National Lead Poisoning Prevention Week is October 21-27. Lead Safe Louisville offers free home inspections to identify lead paint hazards. If you think your home may contain lead hazards, please contact the Lead Safe Louisville Team at 574-4377.
