Dear Runners and Parents, October 6, 2017 Arroyo Verde’s Running Club is back! We’re all very excited to start running and looking forward to the great turnout we’ve had in past years! We will continue to have Running Club Tuesday and Thursday mornings. We will meet down on our grass field at 7:15 and run until 7:45 to allow time for students who will need to get their breakfast before school. We will begin Tuesday, October 10th. We want to encourage all of our runners to do their personal best. This year we will be keeping track of laps the old-fashioned way. Students will have an index card where laps will be marked off as they are completed. Each day we will crown a lap leader. All students will get an update of the miles they’ve run at the beginning of each month. When students reach the marathon level (26.2) and the 50-mile level, they will receive a certificate and a brag tag (26.2 miles) or a t-shirt (50 miles) at our next Pep Rally. We’re also hoping to participate in a couple of local races (Highland YMCA run, January 28th, 2018 and The Run Through Redlands, March 4th, 2018) this school year. I have set up a Remind account for our running club. To receive messages via text, text @AVRunning to 81010. You’ll be included on any group texts which will make it easy for us to communicate about outside races or canceling on rainy mornings. Please sign up ASAP, so we can keep you up-to-date. This year I’d like to run more with students. I have been very fortunate to have amazing parent volunteers in past years, and I am once again calling on parents and community members to get involved in this healthy, fun and exciting way for us to promote lifelong health and fitness habits. I need volunteers to mark laps as students complete them. It’s an easy task, and your help will allow me to run with (and hopefully motivate) students.
