Objectives: 1. SWBAT describe how the Christian religion started. 2. SWBAT compare and contrast the basic Jewish beliefs with the basic Christian beliefs.

Materials: Remember to PRINT LETTER HOME AND ATTACH TO TESTS

Opening: (8 minutes) - Hallway - tests will be handed back, appropriate response = LEFT ALONE! - Do Now (5 minutes) - Collect homework during the DN & pass back tests w/ letter stapled on top - Go over student responses to DN (3 minutes) - Hook: Christianity = most popular religion in this country. - mastering non-fiction texts (becoming powerful) & being artists - significance: fight bloodshed w/ knowledge of what we have in common - behavioral expectations and what we can EARN (chant)

Homework: (4 minutes) ADD VOCAB TO HW - Distribute tonight’s homework - Read instruction w/ class - Take questions - time to organize

Returned Tests (5 minutes) - Read letter through w/ class - Ordinary vs. Extraordinary response - we will GET BETTER and find a way to SHOW what I know you’ve already learned - way I graded the writing section

Pre-Reading: (5 minutes) - Predictions w/ class - Finish predictions w/ partner - PREVIEW graphic organizers (PUT SEQUENCE AND DB ON BOARD)

Reading: (10 minutes) - Shared reading - paired reading PASS OUT ENVELOPES WHILE KIDS READ - above and beyond -- create list of comments and connections on page w/ partner

Illustrations: (7 minutes) - Expectations for ENVELOPE DETECTIVES (3 piles + unused, cleanup) - sample quotation as a class - above and beyond -- create your own on the back of your DN

- Pass back tests and talk about grades - Dive into our next religion (Christianity) by reading with partners - Become envelope detectives (more on that later) - EARN time to work on our new chant - close with new words for our word wall

Remember, we study religions for not just because you will one day meet people who are Jewish, Christian, and Muslim in college. I expect the people in this room to be world leaders, and world leaders must be able to understand the world’s religions in order to bring peace to regions that are currently at war with one another.
