ASSOCIATION OF INDIANS IN AMERICA, MADISON, WI ADOPT-A-HIGHWAY VOLUNTEER WORK ON 9/11/2011

In 2003 AIA, Madison, WI adopted 1.5.miles of 14W from CTH MM (Oregon, WI) to the Byrne Road Bridge. Take highway 14E to Oregon, WI As per WI DOT, this highway section adopted by AIA, Madison, WI must be cleaned a minimum of three times between April and November. Mrs. Usha Shankar is helping Dr. Bala with this activity.

The directions to the highway are: Take the beltway around Madison, WI and take the exit for state highway 14 East to Oregon, WI. Continue on 14E for about 20 min and take the exit MM for Oregon, WI. Stay in the left lane on the exit ramp, turn left at the stop sign, and the first 1.5 miles of 14W towards Madison, WI is assigned to AIA for cleaning. There is a sign with AIA name at the end of the entrance ramp. The highway section to be cleaned starts from that sign and ends at the “Optimist Club” sign near Byrne Road. Only the right-hand-side of that section of highway has to be cleaned.

As usual volunteers gathered at Bala & Lalitha's house for breakfast at about 9:15 a.m. on Sep. 11, 2011 Volunteers were provided breakfast consisting of pongal, idly, sambar, coconut chutney, croissants, muffins, scones, bananas, orange juice, coffee and tea. At about 9:40 a.m. volunteers were divided into three groups and instructed about safely completing the cleaning. Gloves, safety vests and garbage bags were issued to volunteers and drivers of each vehicle were instructed again about the route to be taken to the worksite. The following volunteers participated in this activity on 9/11/2011.
