Vocabulary County representative will discuss with Melissa Hurst 3:20 -Presenter: Melissa Hurst Program the group vocabulary programs that are to -“Favorite Word” already being used in the county. 3:50 -Power & Fun with words; not just ways to teach them - Examine, Preview, Brainstorm & Consider -WCPSS Prek-12 -Vocab. Instruction: 4 Areas -Things to Consider - Research - Need - Time - PD - Buy-in & Fidelity - Cost -Assignment Divide up and evaluate - Word Generation (Don’t have to do each part) Research based On grade level during enrichment Current event based; debatable; some things not appropriate, many components including writing FREE 1 WCPSS students will demonstrate high academic growth; by 2014, all students will graduate on-time prepared to compete globally. Melissa’s favorite - Vocabulary.com basic access for free and trial period; research based, tailored to kids, game based; get PD if you buy - Wordly Wise 3000 EPS- Pathdriver, Academy of Reading; Online or paper $11 per student; When would it be used? - Flocabulary- songs and music to teach vocabulary, PD, research and evidence based, Free trial $1200 per school, Engaging - Word Wisdom- Research based; instructional plan; How to teach context clues - Word Web- Greek and Latin Roots; need some planning; would need to create activities to give to teachers; word parts - MyVocabulary- Greek and Latin Roots FREE; tiered; themes, root of the week

Book Study Option: - Word Nerds - The Core Six - Vocabulary Strategies that work (We already have copies of this book.) Most cost effective.

Do Think Not That Training for School? - Staff that are already trained: Grade Level Reps - Kerns, and 6&7 grade level representatives Betsy will divide up the FREE programs and we can analyze and try out

Plan Analysis The team will look at areas of overlap in ALL 3:50 - Reviewed the overlap of the the plan to two goals 4:00 - The School Improvement Team agreed that there was enough overall to combine the key processes and look at the information in the
