  • Catherine Archambault
    CATHERINE ARCHAMBAULT Catherine cumule 25 années d’expérience dans le domaine de la danse et des arts du cirque. Pendant cette période, elle a signé la création et l’adaptation de plus de cinq cent œuvres qui se démarquent par leur capacité à toucher l’âme du spectateur. Dès l’âge de 7 ans, Catherine étudie la danse classique aux Grands Ballets Canadiens, puis à 14 ans, à l’école Les Ballets Jazz de Québec. Parallèlement, elle évolue au sein d’une équipe de gymnastique artistique. En 1987, elle devient bachelière en danse contemporaine de l’Université Concordia. Puis en 1989, elle chorégraphie son premier numéro de cirque qui gagne à Paris la médaille de bronze au Festival Mondial du Cirque de Demain. Après un passage en France avec le Cirque Archaos, Catherine revient au Québec et fait partie de la première cuvée du Cirque Éloize pour lequel elle signe la mise en scène et la chorégraphie du spectacle éponyme, et puis de Excentricus. Pendant plus de 20 ans, elle collabore à titre de chorégraphe et directrice artistique à plusieurs projets du Cirque du Soleil, mentionnons Viva Elvis, Wintuk, Delirium, Solstrom, Saltimbanco et Fascination, sans compter plusieurs évènements spéciaux à travers le monde. Elle est directrice et chorégraphe acrobatique pour Le Défi des Champions à TVA. Elle est récipiendaire de nombreux prix, dont trois prix du Festival Mondial du cirque de Demain à Paris. En 2012, Catherine entreprend un nouveau cycle de sa carrière et renoue avec l’univers de la danse dans lequel elle intègre le cirque et le jeu théâtral.

Annotation Diploma thesis deals with idea of motional theatre, exactly the most successful commercial circus in the world - Cirque du Soleil. In detail it deals with structure of entity, analyse some performances and completes interesting personal experiences of one artist, who was working in that circus. Also replies if that entity could be still called classical circus, because it contains theatrical elements. "There's no reason why the circus can't change with the times." – Guy Caron At the end of 1998, the creative team behind so many of Cirque du Soleil's productions in the 1990s - Franco Dragone, Michel Crete and Dominique Lemieux - concluded their remarkable run of artistic and professional development with the company, leaving the creative reins to future shows in the hands of others and giving Cirque du Soleil an interesting dilemma to overcome during the first-half of the new millennium: how to move on from a very successful run of productions under the helm of Franco Dragone and his team of conceptors and show the world it could still re-invent the circus. Faced with the challenge of mounting a new show, with a new team, in a compressed period of time, Guy Laliberté turned to an old friend: Guy Caron. Since he had left Cirque in 1988, Caron had maintained friendly relations with Laliberté. In 1992, he had even directed a show called “Cirque Knie Presents Cirque du Soleil” for the Swiss National Circus, produced in collaboration with Cirque. Caron's job wasn't easy, though. He'd have to pick up the creative pieces and attempt to meet or exceed the expectations laid down by the likes of Quidam, “O” and La Nouba. Despite the challenges - or perhaps because of them - Laliberté and Caron were able to show that it was the creative juices of the whole rather than just one man that drove the company, and it was during this period of transition that Cirque du Soleil began to branch out beyond theatrical productions; Cirque would dive into the realm of motion pictures and television full-force with Journey of Man (IMAX film), Fire Within (reality series) and Solstrom (variety series).

I am currently a Washington Television News Correspondent for the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation. I have worked for CBC News for more than 30 years in a variety of positions, but primarily as a news anchor and reporter. I am now based in Washington DC covering US news of interest to Canadians. That includes US politics, foreign affairs, the economy and news features that reflect American life. The CBC The CBC’s mandate is to provide programming that is predominantly and distinctively Canadian and to actively contribute to the flow and exchange of cultural expression. CBC News The CBC News Service was established almost 70 years ago in 1941. As an important component of CBC, the mandate for CBC News mirrors that of the corporation. With its team of experienced and highly professional journalists it is seen as one of the greatest strengths of the CBC. It is Canada’s largest news service with more than 800 journalists employed at home and around the world. It currently has more bureaus across Canada than any other network and 14 outside of the country. There are three bureaus in the US – Washington, New York and Los Angeles. Other locations include London, Paris, Jerusalem, Mexico City, Moscow, Beijing, Shanghai, Nairobi, Bangkok and Kandahar.
