I would love to read and continuation from the orange revolution to the present day euro maidan protests for continued independence. Apr 16, Ariel rated it it was amazing. It is about making a moral choice, about wanting a decent country and being a decent person. I did find some of the references tedious and I was chagrined at some of the flagrant typos--the editing was not good. There is a lot of meat in this book. I also found distant relatives with whom I'm establishing a relationship. Great book for fans of history soaked travel writing as well. Will ship within 4 business days of receiving cleared payment. It is recounted by someone who knows Ukraine from within, having resided there as a correspondent, who travelled east and west, and very well documented. Contact seller. There were a few parts where subsequent events have outpaced the book, most notably as it concerns the Crimea and eastern Ukraine, but I think the book as a whole is still useful. A thousand years ago it was the center of the first great Slav civilization, Kievan Rus. Probably a good read for if you're travelling around Ukraine and aren't familiar with its particularly bleak recent history, but I still have a couple of books lined up that are dedicated to specific moments there I found myself disagreeing slightly with Reid in the final chapters as her welcome for untrammeled capitalism is as enthusiastic as you would expect of a columnist for The Spectator but it's a sign of a good book that I would still provide it with an unhesitating endorsement. For an entire postwar generation, “National Security” meant protection from nuclear attack. On that day, Americans redefined that threat. On September 11, 2001 three hijacked airliners hit three separate buildings with such precision and skill that many observers believe those flights were controlled by something other than the poorly trained hijackers in the cockpits. This report contends that not only were the buildings targets, but that specific offices within each building were the designated targets. These offices unknowingly held information which if exposed, subsequently would expose a national security secret of unimaginable magnitude. Protecting that secret was the motivation for the September 11 th attacks. This report is about that national security secret: its origins and impact. The intent of the report is to provide a context for understanding the events of September 11 th rather than to define exactly what happened that day. Initially, it is difficult to see a pattern to the destruction of September 11 th other than the total destruction of the World Trade Center, a segment of the Pentagon, four commercial aircraft and the loss of 2,993 lives. It is about companies which were regarded as well managed and competitive (perhaps too competitive) till they suddenly failed; companies which were much admired by the stock market, analysts, investors and shareholders, companies which came to be widely acknowledged for their business models, companies which were led by men and women whose examples people were asked to emulate till it was discovered that they had feet of clay. Corporate governance with the trappings of rules, regulations, procedures, legal systems, ethics, culture, and ethos is like a harness which can help drive a company on a sustainable growth path, without which the growth of a company can often become illusively spectacular only to end in business disruption, financial depravation and devastation. Bank of Credit and Commerce International (UK) 1991 Bank of Credit and Commerce International (BCCI) was a major international bank founded in 1972 by agha Hassan abedi, a pakistani fi nancier. The BCCI was incorporated in Luxembourg with head offi ces in Karachi and London. The bank primarily focused on serving Muslim and third-world cli- ents. The quadrupling of oil prices in 1973-74 led to huge deposits by Arab oil producers. As a result BCCI expanded rapidly in the 1970s. BCCI also acquired parallel banks through acquisitions. BCCI entered the african markets in 1979, and asia in the early 1980s. BCCi was among the fi rst foreign banks awarded a license to operate in the Chinese Special Economic Zone of Shenzhen.
