Bob Cronin AM () Bob Cronin’s journalism career began in 1960 as a Courier- Mail cadet, before going on to work at The Daily Mirror and The Sun. In 1974, he was appointed deputy editor of the Sunday Press and later that year became editor of in Albury-Wodonga. He returned to Brisbane in 1983 and was deputy editor of The Courier-Mail before being appointed editor of The Sun in in 1985. In 1987 he joined Robert Holmes a Court’s fledgling media empire in and became editor-in- chief of Bell Publishing. Later that year Bob Cronin was appointed editor-in-chief of West Australian Newspapers. He left The West Australian in 1996 and worked in China for five years. Under the new board’s management, Bob returned to The West Australian in 2008 as group editor-in-chief. In June 2011 he was made a member of the Order of (AM) for service to the print media and community organisations.

Phillip Dickson (Australian Associated Press) Phillip Dickson entered the news industry more than 40 years ago as a delivery boy for a weekly newspaper founded by his grandfather and run by his parents at Bingara in northern NSW. He continued to work at The Bingara Advocate after leaving school until becoming a news reporter and columnist at The in Tamworth. In 1979, he joined Australian Associated Press in Sydney, where he was a sub-editor and political correspondent before leaving to work as a freelance journalist. He has held senior editorial roles since rejoining the national news agency three years later. Mr Dickson was appointed an industry member of Press Council after he became AAP Editorial Manager in 2003.

John Dunnet (Country Press Association) After a cadetship with The Sydney Morning Herald and the completion of university studies (B.A. in literature at Macquarie and M. Litt. at UNE), Mr Dunnet returned to the family business in the early 1970s. He took an active interest in the NSW Country Press Association, serving in a number of positions including that of president. CPA NSW has honoured him with a Life Membership. John recently retired as managing director of The North Western Courier Pty Ltd at Narrabri. The company, now run by John's brother and sister-in-law, publishes The Courier, the Wee Waa News, Cotton Magazine, and a number of other publications. He is a founding member and former chairman of the North West Magazine partnership which launched Australia's first successful regional magazine (a common insert in 13 independent newspapers) more than three decades ago. John has also had a long involvement with Country Press Australia - the federal body for country newspapers. He has served as president of CPA and remains as a member of the CPA board of directors. John has served as an alternate member and member of the Council for country newspapers since 1997.

Alan Kennedy (Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance) Alan Kennedy has been a journalist for the past 40 years. He began his career with a cadetship on The Daily Telegraph in Sydney, and has worked throughout Australia and in London. After working on the development of Australian Business magazine in the early 1980s, he pursued a successful career as a freelance journalist, concentrating on the car industry. As motoring editor of both Australian Business and The Bulletin, he wrote extensively on industry policy. 19 years were spent at The Sydney Morning Herald - firstly, as motoring editor. He edited the Stay In Touch column for three years, before becoming deputy editor and then editor of the sports section. Alan has been a member of the Australian Journalists' Association (AJA), now part of the Media Entertainment and Arts Alliance (MEAA), for 40 years and has been active in the union for most of that time. He chaired the Australian Consolidated Press House Committee, then, after joining the Herald, became chair of the Fairfax House Committee. For the past eight years, he has been president of the journalists' section of the MEAA. Alan has worked with fledgling unions in Asia, including AJI, the journalists' union in Indonesia. He went to East Timor in the weeks after the United Nations intervention to investigate the needs of the media and to support the International Federation of Journalists (IFJ) Safety Office.

Phil McLean (Fairfax Media) Philip McLean is the Group Executive Editor of . He has more than 30 years experience in journalism, starting his career in regional NSW before moving to metropolitan media. Among the positions he has held are New York correspondent for News Limited, Assistant Editor of The Daily Telegraph, Editor of The Sun-Herald and Acting Editor-in-Chief of The Sydney Morning Herald. As Group Executive Editor of Fairfax Media, Philip has had responsibility to manage the integration of the company's journalism across all platforms.

Bob Osburn (Community Newspapers Association) Bob Osburn is the Editor in Chief of Cumberland Courier Newspapers Sydney which publishes 22 community newspapers, including one daily and three bi-weekly newspapers. Bob started as Editor in Chief in 2001 after a career beginning as a cadet reporter with the Geelong Advertiser. He then worked in a variety of editorial positions in Melbourne with , The Sun and The Herald. Prior to beginning with Cumberland Courier Newspapers he was Deputy Editor in Chief of the Leader Newspapers in Melbourne.

Peter Owen (APN News and Media) Peter Owen has more than 40 years experience in the newspaper and publishing industries. He is currently APN Australian Regional Media's Group Executive Editor, with responsibility across 14 regional daily and more than 60 non- daily newspapers. For 15 years (1990-2004) he was Editor-in- Chief of the Sunshine Coast Newspaper Company, which publishes the Sunshine Coast Daily, Sunshine Coast Sunday and a dozen community titles. Peter is a former editor of the Queensland Times (Ipswich), and The Star (Hong Kong) and has worked in newspapers in Melbourne and London. He was a director of the Queensland Events Corporation for 14 years (1996-2009) and chaired the Queensland Events Regional Development Program (QERDP) from its inception in 2001 until 2009. Peter was awarded an Honorary Doctorate in Journalism from Queensland's JSchool in 2008, and is an Honorary Fellow of the University of the Sunshine Coast.

Campbell Reid (News Ltd) Mr Reid joined News Limited in 1981. He worked as reporter and feature writer at The Daily Telegraph until his appointment as chief-of-staff in February 1988. Later that year he moved to the US to head News Limited’s New York bureau, which services all of the Australian group publications. Mr Reid took up assistant editorship of The Daily Telegraph upon his return to Australia in 1991, a position he held for six years. In July 1997, Mr Reid was appointed editor of The Australian and in 2001 became Editor for The Daily Telegraph for 4 years. In 2005 he took up position as General Manager for Queensland Newspapers, a position he held for 2 years. He returned to News Limited in Sydney in August 2007 as Group Editorial Director.

Pam Walkley (ACP Magazines) Pam Walkley is a widely experienced finance journalist. Throughout her career Pam has specialised in business, investing and property, taking over as Editor of Australian Property News in 1984, at the same time as writing for BRW and Personal Investment magazines. In 1988 she moved to the Australian Financial Review as Property Editor and later become News Editor and Chief of Staff of the AFR, a position she held for about seven years, with a one-year break when she was national communications director for one of the world's largest real estate consultants, Jones Lang LaSalle. In early 1999 she moved to Australian Consolidated Press to launch Money Magazine, which quickly became Australia's biggest-selling personal investment magazine. As well as editing Money, Pam writes a monthly personal investment column for Australian Women's Weekly. Pam was appointed as an alternate member of the Council in 2001 and became a full Council member in 2007.
