The Regiment participated in some of the fiercest fighting in the liberation of Holland, so it is only fitting that we recognize the sacrifices made by those who went before us. Ac- cordingly, your Association is working with our tour guide from Dieppe 2017 to organize a battle field tour to commemorate our participation in the liberation. We will keep you apprised of details, itinerary, and costs as they are developed. We are currently looking at a time frame of 29 April to 10 May 2020. Your Association continues to support our veterans and the greater Regimental Family in many ways. One of your Regiments’ mottos and the name of your newsletter “Ich Dien” is our guiding principle. As we continue to serve our Regi- ment, we serve Canada. Please join us in this important responsibility. Our meetings are held in the Sergeant’s Mess at 8 PM on the first Thursday of the month. Any changes to the schedule are sent by email, so please ensure your secretary has your up-to-date address on file. Once again, my heartfelt thanks to those members who’ve made donations in support of our efforts. Many hands make the task lighter. READY AYE READY 4 OUR NEW HONORARY LIEUTENANT COLONEL of THE ROYAL REGIMENT OF CANADA Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Kelly Meighen, née Dillon, is a highly accomplished Toronto-based philanthropist and volunteers much of her time supporting charities and organizations focused on mental health, youth and social innovation. She was born in Cambridge, Massachusetts, just outside Boston. She is the wife of re- tired Senator Michael Meighen. She received a Bachelor's Degree in Psychology from Huron University College, an affiliate of the University of Western Ontario (now Western University), in 1971. She has received Honorary Doctorates from Mount Alison University, the University of New Brunswick and Western University. HLCol Meighen is the President of the T.R. Meighen Family Foundation, a charity that makes donations to social health and welfare programs in Ontario, Quebec and Atlantic Canada. She has been a member of the board since 1980 and is currently the chair of the CAMH (Centre for Addiction and Mental Health). She is a founding and current member on the board of directors for Jack.org, an organization that educates and empowers student leaders to be at the forefront of change in the mental health landscape. She has been integral in the direction of Jack.org with her extensive experience in the non-profit sector. She has been Chair of McGill University's Academic Advising and Mentoring Advisory Board. She was Chair of the Stratford Festival of Canada from 2005 until 2007. She lives in Toronto and has three sons. As an avid and highly accomplished Toronto-based philanthropist, she has won various awards for philanthropic work. She received The PhilanthropistBLIGHTY of the Year Award BOUND from the Association of Fundraising Professionals in 2008. She was also recognized by her alma mater, Western University, in 2010 with the Dr. Ivan Smith Award. Along with her husband, she was a recipient of the Yorktown Family Services Humanitarian Award for community service in 2013 and also awarded the Queen's Golden Jubilee Medal. HLCol Meighen comes from a military family. Her Father HCol Richard (Dick) Dillon CM, MC served in WWII with the RCR and was wounded at the battle of Ortona. HLCol Meighen’s appointment com- menced on November 23rd, 2018. Please join us for her official appointment parade on Sorrel Day June 2nd 2019. On Thursday Janury 31st, 2019, HLCol Kelly Meighen was presented with an AK 47 shell casing presented to her by Capt Hank Crawley. The casing was found in Kandahar Province, in the location of a previous TIC (Troops In Contact) in which Capt Hank Crawley took part in. This was HLCol Meighen’s first introduction to members of the Regiment. Present in the photo is LCol Nonato, Capt Crawley, HLCol Meighen and RSM Persaud. 5 ARMISTICE DAY PARADE AND ARMISTICE DINNER Commanders always task the Regiments they know will get the job done! Accordingly, The Royal Regiment of Canada, represented the 32 Brigade Group and the Division at the re-dedication of Coronation Park in recognition of Armistice Day WW1. Well done Royals! 6 The Regiment thanks all those who supported the Armistice Centenary Gala on the 10th of November 2018. Major (ret’d) Adam Saunders did an outstanding job as the Chair of this event. His efforts once again demonstrated that a Gala can be held on the floor of our home station “Fort York Armoury”. The evening also witnessed the unveiling of the new 3rd Battalion CEF Plaque by the Commanding Officers of The Royal Regiment of Canada and The Queens Own Rifles.
