Our 2017 Annual Fundraiser is over and it was a great success …

As the newsletter goes to print, we have just celebrated our 2017 Annual Fundraiser and, once again, with the help and contribution of many volunteers, it was a great success ...THANK YOU!!! All attendees were in high spirits as they enjoyed the company of good friends, some they have not seen since last year's event. For those who bid on items from the Silent Auction, the bidding was full of friendly competition and the anticipation for the auction results was electric! We had 311 donors, many who donated more than one item, so our field of choices in the silent auction/raffle was enormous. alone donated over 73 cases of wine, not to mention the tickets for our Grand and First Prizes. If you checked your email on March 17th you saw the long list of donated items (419 listings)!!!!! And we thank each and every one of our donors for helping make our event such a success. We ask you to please continue to patronize the businesses of our donors as they are so vital to the success of our fundraiser (a complete list of donors starts on page 9). We also thank the entire staff of the Airport Marriott for their excellent service which contributes greatly to the success of the fundraiser every year. Now we can take a breather with the satisfaction of knowing we did another great job in raising funds for our four charities. With the monies made on the bid items, raffle tickets, and donations made "In Memory of / In Honor of" and cash donations, we are confident we will be able to make generous donations again this year to each charity. We will publish the total amount collected in the May newsletter, so stay tuned!" Since we only have the April and May luncheons remaining for this season before our summer sabbatical, please make plans to join us for one or both of these luncheons. Details about the April luncheon on page 2. The May luncheon date is listed under SAVE THE DATE on page 4.

Congratulations to our Grand Prize and First Prize Winners

FOUNDER AND PRESIDENT of LADIES DAY FUND, INC. Carole Lovelace ~ [email protected] ~ (504) 598.5673 www.ladiesdayfund.com

LDF is an organization assisting active and retired Delta flight attendants who are in need due to a serious illness or catastrophic event.

No one ever really dies as long as they took the time to leave us with fond memories. ~ Chris Sorensen ~ On August 31, 2016 we said goodbye to one of our most senior, retired New Orleans flight attendants, Janet Bell. Her only family was two nieces and a nephew. Her nieces asked me to help with her obituary in order to give a glimpse into Janet's personality. For those of you who knew her well know, this was not an easy task to be given! My contribution was this… Though small in stature, her impact was huge! She will be remembered for her very dry sense of humor, her sharp wit and her fabulous Mardi Gras costumes. Janet was definitely a legend in her own time! Janet was a breast cancer survivor and one of three flight attendants (who also dealt with serious illnesses) I asked to help me put together the first New Orleans Ladies Day Boat Party Fundraiser in 1998. She believed in our cause and always wanted to help … she never missed a fundraiser! Since her passing, there has been a continuous outpouring of donations and messages sent to LDF in her honor! I'm sure she had no idea how many friends she had!! To everyone who has shared a memory and/or donated in her name ... thank you so much!! Wishing everyone a very Happy Easter, Carole

CHAIRPERSON ~ Ann Beaman D’Agostino [email protected]

The words, “That’s What Friends Are For,” were never truer than for the ladies who pulled together to create the baskets for the Auction. Rarely do I flake out on my commitments, but when family duty calls elsewhere, it’s nice to have friends, known and unknown, who will step in and take up the slack. I’m sure you have friends like that in your life … and how wonderful they are. They will come at a moment’s notice, bring you food and run errands for you. As a group, we have always been caring people … it’s the nature of being a Flight Attendant. But when we hang up our wings, it becomes even more meaningful to have people who will help you out when the need arises. Bless all who step up to the bat every time when we are sick or need a friend. Bless them when they listen to our woes or just sit beside us in companionable silence. Sometimes it’s not a monetary thing or helping with a task, sometimes it’s just being there. I’m sure you have experienced this and what a treasure those friends are to you. If the need arises, you know all you have to do is put out the word and someone will raise their hand. Delta Clipped Wings is just that kind of organization and I’m so proud to be a part of it. I want to personally thank all who stepped in to do what I could not do this year: Alva Blake, Sue Head, Corrine Hofstetter, Paulette Johnson, Hope Lytton, Stacy Martin, Suzi Modisett, Lori Nesz, Anna Owens and, of course, Sandy Chinn, Kathy Roper, Retta Christoforatos, Donna Wilson and LaVonne Lindquist. These are the ladies who created all the nice baskets you bid on for the Auction. May we always have good friends who will help us and love us, no matter what. Till next time, Ann
