Worthing Vs Bowers & Pitsea 10 10 20.Indd WELCOME TO THE MATCH BARRY HUNTER - CLUB CHAIRMAN Woodside Road, Worthing, BN14 7HQ Worthing FC club honours Welcome to our first scheduled home fixture of the 2020/21 01903 233 444 | [email protected] Isthmian League Div 1 Champions 82–83 campaign. CLUB OFFICIALS Isthmian League Div 1S Runners Up 03–04 George Dowell Owner Isthmian League Div 1S Play-off Winners 15–16 I would say that the general expectations around the club going into Barry Hunter Chairman Isthmian League Div 2 Champions 81–82, 92–93 last season was optimism. Kick it Out: 020 7253 0162 www.worthingfc.com | 3 FROM THE MANAGER’S DESK ADAM HINSHELWOOD - TEAM MANAGER A warm welcome to everyone from Bowers & Pitsea for today’s game here at Horsham FC. THANK YOU TO OUR SPONSORS I write these notes after a very disappointing defeat away at Leatherhead where we came up against a team with a different game plan than what we have encountered before and which took a while to adjust to play to get a result. We fortunately found ourselves ahead in the game with 15 minutes to go which we have seen before already this season, again we were unable to see the game out. On both occasions some of which has been down to tactics, a lot down to endeavour and a commitment to keep the ball out of our net. When in a winning position with so few minutes on the clock we should have an added incentive to get the win but this simply has not been the case. We need to add this bit of steel into our squad if we are to achieve anything this season, this kind of naivety needs addressing for a club of our stature. Some injury news, Jesse Starkey hamstring injury should be back for Margate away next Saturday. Alfie Young should be training within 2 weeks. Darren Budd is still feeling the back of his ankle after rolling it in training and Danny Barker should be available today. Aaran Racine and Alex Parsons were both unavailable midweek due to work commitments but we hope to have them available as often as possible this season. Thanks for your support throughout the lockdown period with the crowd funder and then following the team in this difficult period whilst playing away from home. The ground improvements are really starting to take shape and we can’t wait to welcome you all back to Woodside when safe to do so. Up the Mackerels. It was the visitors who almost struck first when a dangerous-looking low cross from Leon Moore on the right only missed a decisive touch from Dajon Golding by a toenail. Some neat approach play then saw Reece Myles- Meekums backheel the ball to Jasper Pattenden who exchanged passes with Ollie Pearce before curling narrowly wide of the far top corner. Our reward is a home tie against Burgess Hill Town, with the date TBC as the FA consider the impact of the new national lockdown. The Club were also delighted to announce the signing of attacking midfielder Dominic Vose who joins Saunders from Kingstonian having previously played for Bromley, Whitehawk and Dulwich Hamlet. His registration was confirmed yesterday, and he is available for selection tonight. Next to no international concerns to consider for our players, so why not? Perhaps have the play off finals on that final Spring Bank Holiday weekend, or indeed the weekend after. For August to April, followers of the professional game, whose seasons will have finished earlier, it would be an opportunity to support their local team’s last push for promotion or whatever having September to closed the book on their own club’s exploits. 4 A better showcase May would be I know the BBC in particular does well by the FA Cup. Instead of some random choice of FA Cup preliminary round tie, imagine this on Football Focus: “On today’s programme an interview with Fulham new boy Andreas better for Schurrle, the top 10 reasons why Mourinho’s on his way out - and as the non-league sea- son begins, we look at the clubs and players to watch.” A distinct identity, distinctively non-league profiled.
