At a press conference in Washington with FCC Commissioner Jonathan S. Adelstein, the groups called for a crackdown on stations that present corporate-sponsored videos as genuine news to an unsuspecting audience. CMD, which unveiled the results of a 10-month investigation, found scores of local stations slipping commercial “video news releases,” or VNRs, into their regular news programming. The new multimedia report released today includes footage of 36 separate VNRs and their broadcast as “news” by TV stations and networks nationwide, including those in the nation’s biggest markets. The full report -- “Fake TV News: Widespread and Undisclosed” -- is now available complete with VNR and TV station video footage at www.prwatch.org/fakenews/execsummary. -

List of Directv Channels (United States)
List of DirecTV channels (United States) Below is a numerical representation of the current DirecTV national channel lineup in the United States. Some channels have both east and west feeds, airing the same programming with a three-hour delay on the latter feed, creating a backup for those who missed their shows. The three-hour delay also represents the time zone difference between Eastern (UTC -5/-4) and Pacific (UTC -8/-7). All channels are the East Coast feed if not specified. High definition Most high-definition (HDTV) and foreign-language channels may require a certain satellite dish or set-top box. Additionally, the same channel number is listed for both the standard-definition (SD) channel and the high-definition (HD) channel, such as 202 for both CNN and CNN HD. DirecTV HD receivers can tune to each channel separately. This is required since programming may be different on the SD and HD versions of the channels; while at times the programming may be simulcast with the same programming on both SD and HD channels. Part time regional sports networks and out of market sports packages will be listed as ###-1. Older MPEG-2 HD receivers will no longer receive the HD programming. Special channels In addition to the channels listed below, DirecTV occasionally uses temporary channels for various purposes, such as emergency updates (e.g. Hurricane Gustav and Hurricane Ike information in September 2008, and Hurricane Irene in August 2011), and news of legislation that could affect subscribers. The News Mix channels (102 and 352) have special versions during special events such as the 2008 United States Presidential Election night coverage and during the Inauguration of Barack Obama. -

2021 TORNADO/SEVERE WEATHER RESPONSE PLAN Tyler / Smith County
2021 TORNADO/SEVERE WEATHER RESPONSE PLAN Tyler / Smith County PURPOSE This plan is designed to serve as a guide and to provide useful information to the public. Users of this plan are encouraged to direct all questions to the appropriate designated agencies. AS ALWAYS, IN AN EMERGENCY SITUATION, PLEASE CALL 911 SCIENCE Tornadoes are a destructive force that in the United States occur an average 1300 times annually, resulting in an average of 80 deaths per year. In Texas alone, tornadoes occur an average of 137 times annually, resulting in an average of 8 deaths per year. A single tornado or an outbreak of tornadoes can kill dozens at one time and can cause widespread damage. A tornado is defined as a violently rotating column of air extending from a thunderstorm to the ground. The most violent tornadoes are capable of tremendous destruction with wind speeds of 300 mph or more. Damage paths can be in excess of one mile wide and 50 miles long. Likely conditions indicating a tornado include a dark, greenish sky, large hail, a wall cloud, and a loud roar similar to a freight train. Tornadoes may appear as a visible funnel extending partially or fully to the ground and may be accompanied by debris. While some tornadoes are clearly visible, they can be nearly transparent until they have picked up dust and debris, or they may be hidden or obscured by rain or low-hanging clouds. Tornadoes can happen during any time of the year and at any time of the day. They may strike quickly and without warning. -
