The Gourmet Department hosted a “High Tea” May 15. This was an all-group event and the last event of this calendar year. There was a surprise turn of events, and the ladies in attendance were involved in a murder mystery. They were asked to solve the mysterious death of the Duke of Darjeeling. It was a fun afternoon and a great way to interact with the audience. The new chair, Julie Minter, and co-chairs Maureen Anselmi and Rita Langley were announced. Any KWC member who would like to sign up for next year may do so at the June KWC meeting or by calling Julie at (940) 665-0444. Carol Bosse high Tea

EAST/WEST CHALLENGE GOLF TOURNAMENT The annual East/West Challenge golf tournament was held May 5, 6. This year’s captains were John Seefeldt for the West and Lou Vander Molen for the East. The weekend’s festivities began as usual with a potluck dinner on Friday night where the pairings and tee times were announced. The first day of play on Saturday saw the West take a size- able lead, thanks to the West ladies who won 13 matches versus 7 for the East. The men almost battled to a tie, with the East taking 20 ½ versus 19 ½ for the West. So at the end of Day 1, the West had 32 ½ points and the East had 27 ½. To win the Challenge, one team has to accumulate 60 ½ points. The Saturday night meal was a fajita dinner catered by a church group from the Primera Iglesia Bautista in Gainesville. The money that the group received for the meal will be used for a mission trip this summer to South America. On Sunday the ladies played first, and the East ladies outscored the West ladies 11 to 9 to cut into the West lead. But the West men took charge at that point. When the West team of Woodruff and Seeber won their two matches, the West had accumulated 60 ½ points to win the Challenge. The final tally was 65 ½ for the West and 54 ½ for the East. After the dinner meal, Captain Lou (and his wife Karen) took a swim in the lake to end the weekend of golf, good food and good competition.
