So perfettamente che alle band non piace etichettare la propria musica, quindi mi pedonerai se ti pongo questa domanda: la vosta musica è ottima ma in che genere rientra? Michael : Ciao Gianluca. La nostra musica ha sempre avuto molte influenze diverse, a causa del fatto che abbiamo avuto così tanti compositori, tutti diversi tra loro. Ogni brano è stato realizzato con un proprio specifico suono. E' questo il motivo per cui non c'è banjo su "Jackie blu" e nessuna armonia su "Chicken Train". Diciamo che ogni canzone merita un trattamento speciale. A&B : Durante i primi anni settanta, la label A&M era alla ricerca di una band sullo stile degli Eagles. Ed infatti, voi foste scoperti dal primo produttore dgli Eagles, Glyn Johns. Cosa ricordi di quel primo periodo? Michael : Ricordo che eravamo letteralmente sopraffatti dal fatto che Glyn Johns amasse la nostra musica, al punto da indurlo a dedicare così tanto del suo tempo per produrci e per la registrazione. E' stato un ottimo produttore e noi siamo stati molto fortunati ad aver lavorato con lui. A&B : Pensi che le somiglianze con la musica della prima incarnazione degli Eagles siano corrette e pertinenti? Michael : Sì, ritengo corrette queste similitudini. Noi e loro fummo figli del nostri tempo: suonavamo con enfasi gli strumenti acustici e cantavamo delle splendide armonie vocali. A&B : In Italia, generalmente associamo gli Ozark Mountain Daredevils a band come Poco, Firefall, Pure Praire League, Cowboy, Mason Profit. È giusto secondo te? A&B : Vorrei conoscere i dettagli dei dischi "Now Hear This" e "Still Alive And Well!" registrato dal vivo al Roxy di Los Angeles nel dicembre del 1975, pubblicato dalla etichetta Lost Cabin Music nella metà degli anni Settanta (se ben ricordo). Michael : Per quanto concerne il primo titolo, si tratta di un lotto di canzoni che abbiamo registrato e poi inserito in una cassetta autoprodotta (venduta soltanto ai concerti). Molti dei brani ivi contenuti si possono trovare su "13". Non so nulla, invece, di "Still Alive And Well!" (effettivamente, potrebbe trattarsi di un bootleg. Nda) A&B : Qual è, secondo te, il vostro miglior album e quale il più sottovalutato? I perfectly know that all the bands don't like categorize their music but I have to ask the following: you play a very good music but what kind of genre is it? Michael : Ciao Gianluca. Our music has always held many different genres, due to the fact that we had so many different writers with different influences. Each song was crafted to its individual sound. That's why there are no banjos on Jackie Blue and no smooth harmonies on Chicken Train. Each song deserves special treatment. A&B : During the early seventies, major A&M was looking for a band on the style of Eagles. And in fact, you was "discovered" by Eagles' first producer, Glyn Johns. What do you remember about this first period? Michael : I remember being overwhelmed by the fact that Glyn Johns liked our music enough to dedicate so much of his time to recording it. He is a very good producer and I/we feel very lucky to have worked with him. A&B : Do you think that the similarities with the music of (the first incarnation of) Eagles are correct, are pertinents or relevants? Michael : Yes, The similarities are correct. We/they were products of our times, with emphasis on acoustic instruments and vocal harmonies. A&B : In Italy we generally associate Ozark Mountain Daredevils with bands like Poco, Firefall, Pure Praire League, Cowboy, Mason Profit. Is it correct in your opinI don't know anything about.ion? If not, where and what is the difference?
