Samantha Armytage axed from hosting or attending the Australia For UNHCR charity event after Kristin Davis sketch FEBRUARY 12, 20161:57PM Sam Armytage axed as host of UNHCR fundraiser Michael MorrowNews Corp Australia Network SAMANTHA Armytage has been uninvited from a charity event after yesterday’s Sex and the City skit on Sunrise with Kristin Davis backfired. The surprise decision was announced on the show this morning, after yesterday’s segment featuring the Sex and the City star drew widespread criticism from around the world and from the star herself. “I was asked to MC that event and conduct a Q and A with Kristin on stage and I immediately accepted,” Armytage said. “Since our interview yesterday, organisers have asked Sam not to host the event now or to attend it at all, that was unexpected,” Kochie added. “I always was, and I still am, very happy to host this fundraiser for such an important cause,” an upset Armatage concluded. The Sunrise hosts finished by saying they have the “utmost respect” for Kristen Davis and the Australia For UNHCR and wished them luck. “It was meant to be a bit of fun,” Kochie said. Kristin Davis took to Twitter to express her displeasure with the skit. Picture: TwitterSource:Twitter After an initial chat about Davis’s work with UNHCR, on yesterday’s show Kochie and Armytage proceeded to ask numerous questions about her TV series, which wrapped filming in 2004. The Hollywood star appeared clearly uncomfortable when they threw to a clip of her as Charlotte, her character on the show.

  • Stephen Harrington Thesis
PUBLIC KNOWLEDGE BEYOND JOURNALISM: INFOTAINMENT, SATIRE AND AUSTRALIAN TELEVISION STEPHEN HARRINGTON BCI(Media&Comm), BCI(Hons)(MediaSt) Submitted April, 2009 For the degree of Doctor of Philosophy Creative Industries Faculty Queensland University of Technology, Australia 1 2 STATEMENT OF ORIGINAL AUTHORSHIP The work contained in this thesis has not been previously submitted to meet requirements for an award at this or any other higher education institution. To the best of my knowledge and belief, the thesis contains no material previously published or written by another person, except where due reference is made. _____________________________________________ Stephen Matthew Harrington Date: 3 4 ABSTRACT This thesis examines the changing relationships between television, politics, audiences and the public sphere. Premised on the notion that mediated politics is now understood “in new ways by new voices” (Jones, 2005: 4), and appropriating what McNair (2003) calls a “chaos theory” of journalism sociology, this thesis explores how two different contemporary Australian political television programs (Sunrise and The Chaser’s War on Everything) are viewed, understood, and used by audiences. In analysing these programs from textual, industry and audience perspectives, this thesis argues that journalism has been largely thought about in overly simplistic binary terms which have failed to reflect the reality of audiences’ news consumption patterns. The findings of this thesis suggest that both ‘soft’ infotainment (Sunrise) and ‘frivolous’ satire (The Chaser’s War on Everything) are used by audiences in intricate ways as sources of political information, and thus these TV programs (and those like them) should be seen as legitimate and valuable forms of public knowledge production.

The Moorabool News FREE Your Local News Tuesday 5 November, 2013 Serving Ballan and district since 1872 Phone 5368 1966 Fax 5368 2764 Vol 7 No 43 He’s our man! By Kate Taylor Central Ward Councillor Paul Tatchell has been voted as Moorabool’s new Mayor. East Ward Councillor John Spain was voted in as Deputy Mayor. Outgoing Mayor Pat Toohey did not re-nominate at the Statutory and Annual Appointments Meeting held last Wednesday 30 October, where Mayor Tatchell won the role with a 5-2 majority. Nominated by East Ward Councillor Allan Comrie, Cr Tatchell gained votes from fellow councillors Comrie, David Edwards, Tonia Dudzik and John Spain. West Ward Councillor Tom Sullivan was nominated and voted for by Pat Toohey. New Mayor Tatchell told the meeting he was very fortunate to have been given the privilege of the role. “For former mayor Pat Toohey, to have come on board and then taken on the role of Mayor with four new councillors, he jumped straight in the driver’s seat… and the first few months were very difficult, but he persevered with extreme patience. “And to the experienced councillors we came in contact with from day one, with years of experience, without that, I can’t imagine how a council could have operated with seven new faces. We are incredibly fortunate to have those experienced councillors on board.” Mayor Tatchell also hinted at a vision for more unity in the future. “A bit less of ‘I’ and more of ‘we,’” he said. Deputy Mayor Spain was voted in with votes from councillors Dudzik, Edwards, and Comrie, with Mayor Tatchell not required to cast a vote on a majority decision.
