John Paul II Awards This award involves young students in our parish in activities; social, civil & church Parish of Ahamlish and Inishmurray related. In the last few years, we’ve had students from the parish involved & just recently the following were given Gold Awards for work completed during their TY year: Grange ◊ Cliffoney ◊ Mullaghmore Rev. This year we th have 10 students signed up from Colaiste Cholmcille, Ballyshannon & Summerhill College, Web address: www.ahamlish.com Issue 43, Saturday, 25 Oct 2014 Sligo. I am looking for any ideas that will help young people participate in our church. Many thanks to all our students who undertook these awards; giving up their time & talent to our church. St Pope John Paul II had a great love for young people. He regarded them as the future of the Church, & challenged them to do their best for the good of humanity. They will bring the Good News forward. Do you need somebody to do a small job in your home? Maybe change a light bulb, replace batteries in your smoke alarm, hang curtains, install a lock or a door chain, replace plugs & chains to sinks & baths, ironing & small household tasks, securing floor boards or carpets, move furniture etc. or maybe you need help with filling out a form. Sligo Lend a Hand has volunteers in Grange & surrounding areas. This service is offered free to elderly & vulnerable people & no job is too small. All appointments will be booked in advance & volunteers will carry identification. To avail of this service please call 087 177 6386 weekdays between 11am – 3pm. Local area co-ordinator is Heather McDonnell Sligo Leader Partnership Co. deliver a programme for people who would like to learn how to use the interne. The course is being delivered in Ballymote, Gurteen, Tubbercurry, Collooney, Enniscrone, Easkey, Grange, Ballintrillick & Sligo town. The course comprises of four, two hour classes; cost €20. Laptops & training manuals provided. The programme will include a variety of everyday tasks, such as using Skype, sending emails, taxing your car, viewing missed TV programmes etc. Ring Helen at 071 91 41138 for further details.     Very Rev. Fr. Cyril Haran, P.E. , Ahamlish, Grange, Co. Sligo . RIP 25 June 2014. Parish of Ahamlish and Inishmurray Tributes continue to be paid to the late Fr. Cyril Haran, who has passed away after Grange ◊ Cliffoney ◊ Mullaghmore 58 years of ministry. Fr. Haran was appointed CC in Grange in 1988 & in 1997 Rev. Christy McHugh: Tel: 071 9163100 Email: [email protected] appointed parish priest of Ahamlish & Inishmurray. He retired in 2003. Fr. Cyril was th heavily involved in the GAA locally and at county level for many years. He played Issue 26, Saturday, 28 June 2014 with the Grange GAA team as a teenager. As a teacher in Summerhill he led many teams to success in Soccer & Gaelic. He led St. Mary’s to their first County Senior title and they became the first club in Sligo to win a Connaught title in 1977. In 1978, he managed St. Mary’s to a county semi final against Grange, which Grange won in a replay. He also managed Roscommon Gaels & St. Michaels and was County Sligo Senior Team Manager from 1983-1985. One of his remembered sayings, when he would gather his team around him, to face their opponents was “Lads, winning isn’t everything (pause) it’s the only thing”. “He was a man, take him for all in all, I shall not look upon his like again....for in that sleep of death, what dreams may come.” (Shakespeare).
