An Affair To Remember III — Dec. 6, 2008 1 e welcome you once again to the beautiful hills of north Georgia during one of the most festive holiday seasons of the year. We wish that we could tell you that we were once again in the midst of a rainy season, but sadly that is not true for 2008 as it was not true for 2007. The severe Wdrought that we have been under was lessened very little during the first part of this year and we are once again praying for a few rainy days! But that hasn’t deflated our spirits and we still have a good selection of workable cattle for you to take home with the knowledge that they will work in any part of the country. A lot of things have transpired in the two years since “An Affair to Remember II”, including the addition of another grandchild, our first granddaughter, born in June (one day before Truman’s birthday). We have so enjoyed the addition of these two wonderful grandchildren and look forward to their participation in Whaley Polled Herefords in the future. Starr served a term as chairman on the National Organization of Poll-ettes (NOP) Board and along with our son, Cameron, got to perform on stage with Randy Owen at “Music on the Mountain” in May of this year. How can they ever top that? We have also lost friends to untimely deaths, saw friends disperse cattle herds and watched our country caught in the throes of another political campaign to determine our country’s future. Almost too much to absorb in a short two-year span! During this time we have very diligently worked to build a herd of animals that would be worthy of presenting for your inspection and approval at this year’s “An Affair to Remember III.” We feel that we have a broad spectrum of genetics to offer you in this years sale. As of August, 2008, WPH became the proud owner of Remitall Route 66 and he will now be walking the hills of north Georgia very soon! Cameron, Erin, We will be offering the first of our Route 66 calves in this sale along with the first Pearl Reece and Eva daughters that we have parted with. In addition to these, we will have a generous selection of daughters from our battery of donors, including the T16 cow. We welcome our friends, River Ridge Ranch and Black Hat Ranch, as they join us as guest consignors this year. We’re sure you will find their offerings to your liking. Just another opportunity to buy Christmas presents for everyone! We invite you to join us on Friday night, December 5, 2008, for our wonderful Christmas dinner and party. We are going to have a Christmas Egg Sale following dinner, bringing you some of our best embryos for your Christmas stockings. On Saturday morning, December 6, we have a shopping expedition planned for the ladies to a quaint home décor shop, Raspberry Row, located in Dalton, Ga. We plan on leaving our farm at 9:15 so that we can get everyone back for lunch at 11. The sale will begin at noon on Saturday. Mark your calendars for this fun-filled and exciting weekend in Georgia. We may have 70 degree weather or we may have snow! Just come prepared. Truman and Starr Whaley Truman and Starr 2 An Affair To Remember III — Dec. 6, 2008 Murray County Veterinary Services 344 Duvall Rd. • Chatsworth, GA 30705 elcome to this years edition of the “An Affair to Remember III”. My association with this wonderful family began many years ago when the herd health team consisted of Truman, Mr. Carl Whaley and myself. During the early days, Mr. Carl, armed with aW feed bucket and brush, trained all the cows to stand still in the pasture while he brushed and groomed them. The program has grown tremendously since those days, but the attention to detail and quality remain the same. Tim Connell, with help from James Ponders, does an excellent job of managing the herd. Through the years, we have tried to keep in place the most comprehensive herd health program pos- sible. This program includes vaccination of all adult cattle for IBR, PI3, BVD, BRSV, Vibrio, Five-way Lepto, Haemophilus Somnus, Pinkeye and Eight Way Clostridium. Calves are vaccinated at approxi- mately three months of age with a similar program. The process is repeated at weaning. In order to insure the best possible prevention, we have moved to a modified live vaccine for viral vaccinations. All heifers are calfhood vaccinated for Brucellosis with RB-51 Strain vaccine. All cattle are dewormed twice yearly and dewormers are rotated as needed to prevent parasite resistance. Whaley Polled Herefords is both a Certified Brucellosis Free and TB Free herd. Their herd number is 278. The health of this herd is excellent. A sound nutritional program which includes proper pasture fertil- ization and winter protein supplementation is also in place. A good quality vitamin-mineral supplement is available free-choice to all cattle. Health papers have been written on all sale lots and any needed permit numbers for interstate shipment will be obtained for you. I will be present on sale day and will be glad to answer any questions about the Whaley herd health program or just to discuss one of my favorite subjects, beef cattle herd health. P42789212 — Calved: Sept. 11, 2006 — Tattoo: BE 6091 When you’re looking for a breeding bull, the first thing that Bull comes to mind in today’s world is the ability of that animal to produce a live calf with no assistance. When you look at the Lot birth weights on these animals and the birth weight of the sire WPH VICToR 4009 103K 6090 ET and the accuracy of that birth weight, you automatically know that this is a true, tried and proven number. The sire of these two bulls is our maternal P42118442 CES VICKY 776 P70 giant, 4009.

  • The 2019 Dams of Distinction List Honors the Hereford Breed's Cows Who Meet the Highest Standard of Production and Recognizes the Cattlemen Who Produce Them
The 2019 Dams of Distinction list honors the Hereford breed's cows who meet the highest standard of production and recognizes the cattlemen who produce them. 2019 Dams of Distinction Honored The job description for an ideal Hereford cow could be as follows: She should produce a healthy, growthy calf every year; she should calve as a two-year-old, and she should cause her owner absolutely no problems. These ideal cows are recognized as Dams of Distinction. A Dam of Distinction is the standard by which all Hereford cows can be judged. In order to be honored as a Dam of Distinction, a cow must have 1) Weaned a calf born since January 1, 2018. 2) Produced at least 3 calves. 3) Initially calved at 30 months of age or less. 4) Had an interval between the first and second calves of no greater than 400 days. In addition, a 370-day calving interval must have been maintained after her second calf. The longer initial calving interval allows breeders to calve two-year-old heifers prior to the mature cow herd. 5) Every calf produced that was born before June 30, 2019 must have weaning records submitted to the Hereford Performance Program. 6) A progeny average 205-day adjusted weaning weight ratio of at least 105. These are the cows that meet the highest standards of commercial cattle production. The cow must do her job, but also her owner must manage the herd correctly to give her the opportunity to excel. Only a small portion of active cows is recognized.

CAT-TALES AAWKWARD PPAUSES CAT-TALES AAWKWARD PPAUSES By Chris Dee and Rob Pierce Edited by David L. COPYRIGHT © 2003 BY CHRIS DEE ALL RIGHTS RESERVED. BATMAN, CATWOMAN, GOTHAM CITY, ET AL CREATED BY BOB KANE, PROPERTY OF DC ENTERTAINMENT, USED WITHOUT PERMISSION AWKWARD PAUSES A bright full moon illuminated the rooftops of the L & L Lofts in the heart of the once seedy, now ultra-fashionable Meatpacking District. Batman retrieved his grappling hook and reloaded the ascender, then he removed his gloves and massaged the knuckles. It wasn’t the three hours of Zogger, he told himself, it was the JLA meeting. Sitting there for an hour and a half of interminable nonsense, he’d expressed his disgust the only way possible, by clenching and unclenching his fist. A burst of hoarse laughter came from below. Batman turned to see a trio of drag queens leaving a nightclub, one pointing in his direction. The moon, he was perfectly silhouetted by the full moon. He muttered an obscenity, firing a line to a more discreet location and swinging out of the moonlight. The Meatpacking District. In the 60s, it was SoHo; in the 80s, TriBeCa.
