  • MCA-700 Midline/Reissue Series
MCA 700 Discography by David Edwards, Mike Callahan & Patrice Eyries © 2018 by Mike Callahan MCA-700 Midline/Reissue Series: By the time the reissue series reached MCA-700, most of the ABC reissues had been accomplished in the MCA 500-600s. MCA decided that when full price albums were converted to midline prices, the albums needed a new number altogether rather than just making the administrative change. In this series, we get reissues of many MCA albums that were only one to three years old, as well as a lot of Decca reissues. Rather than pay the price for new covers and labels, most of these were just stamped with the new numbers in gold ink on the front covers, with the same jackets and labels with the old catalog numbers. • Big Daddy's Twenty Greatest One Hit Wonders
BIG DADDY'S TWENTY GREATEST ONE HIT WONDERS "Whew! I'm thankful this list and topic are over. While I greatly appreciate the attention and passion you all brought to it, it also came with so much anger from some. I think the SPIRIT of the fun in it all got lost. So here's what happened. ANY final 20 selection that was followed with a hit that crawled into the top 40, even if 90% of music lovers can't recall that second hit today, did not make the cut. EXAMPLE? Billy Paul's ME AND MRS. JONES and THANK YOU FOR SAVING MY LIFE. EXAMPLE? An amazing track like Fountain's of Wayne's STACY'S MOM gets excluded because I own every note that band has ever recorded. So to me, they were so much more than the one hit that charted and there are other examples of this as well. While I don't own EVERY album FREE ever recorded, to me they are so much more than ALL RIGHT NOW. Mountain's MISSISSIPPI QUEEN is another example of this. EXAMPLE? The Contours score big time with DO YOU LOVE ME. Although FIRST I LOOK AT THE PURSE technically didn't chart Top 40 at the time it came out, PURSE is very well known today, so it's difficult to look at them as a one hit wonder. EXAMPLE? I only counted AMERICAN chart success. THE EASYBEATS had many other Australian hits, but FRIDAY ON MY MIND is their only USA chart success. So it made it.

  • 31 July 2013 Ms Sabina Wynn the Executive Director Australian Law
31 July 2013 Ms Sabina Wynn The Executive Director Australian Law Reform Commission GPO Box 3708 Sydney NSW 2001 Dear Ms Wynn Submission by J. Albert & Son Pty Ltd (Alberts) in response to the ALRC’s “Copyright and the Digital Economy” Discussion Paper As Managing Director of Alberts , I welcome the opportunity to respond to the Discussion Paper. Alberts’ view Alberts is a family-owned company established by my great-great grandfather in 1885, the main business of which is the creation, protection and exploitation of music copyright. In its early days, Alberts’ copyright interests tended towards acquisition of local rights for overseas musical works. That changed in 1964 when Alberts established Albert Productions, an enterprise with the express purpose of being a developer and (in due course) exporter of music copyrights. Alberts went on to work with some of Australia’s most significant artists and writers including the Easybeats, the Angels, Rose Tattoo, John Paul Young and AC/DC. In association with Alberts, AC/DC has gone on to become one of the most successful rock bands of all time, and helped Alberts become a net-exporting Australian copyright owner. Alberts is a member of the following Australian copyright collecting societies and trade associations: AMPAL, APRA|AMCOS, ARIA and PPCA. I am aware that a number of these organisations, together with the Australian Copyright Council, have tendered submissions to the ALRC. Alberts is broadly supportive of those submissions and the information contained within them. Rather than restate their position, my aim is to provide a perspective from an independent family company that is actively engaged in the music business.

  • Jeff Apter @320Kbps.Mp3
Jeff Apter @320kbps.mp3 [00:00:00] Welcome to the Inner West Library Speaker series. Before we begin, I would like to acknowledge the Gadigal and Wangal people of the Eora nation and pay my respects to the elders past, present and emerging. Today's conversation will be with Jeff Apter, Jeff is the author of more than 20 music biographies, many of them bestsellers. His subjects include Johnny O'Keefe, Keith Urban, Johnny Farnham, the Bee Gees and AC/DC. Jeff worked with Rolling Stone for many years and has written about music legends Aretha Franklin, Bob Dylan and Patti Smith. In 2015, he worked on the Helpmann Award nominated live show A State of Grace, The music of Jeff and Tim Buckley. Today, we speak about his new book, Friday On My Mind, The Life of George Young. This podcast is relevant to the music library, which will open at Ashfield Library in November this year. So, Jeff, can you talk a little about George Young and his early relationship with Harry Vanda while staying at the Villawood migrant hostel? [00:01:04] George Young and his family. He was one of 10, came to Australia in nineteen sixty three. They were part of what we now know, known as the ten pound POM scheme. And they've been hoping they've been invited basically over to the sunny side of Australia. And they ended up in the Villawood Migrant Hostel, which was not the most hospitable place then or now. But George one day was walking around the hostel and he heard a sound coming from the laundry room.

  • Alison's Birthday Music Credits
Music Brian King Alan Oloman Mirne's Theme by Ian Coughlan Music Recorded At E.M.I. Studios Sydney Composers Brian King and Alan Oloman once worked together in the band The Executives. The essential for music buffs site Miles Ago provides this obituary of Oloman here: Australian musician, songwriter and audio engineer Alan "Olly" Oloman died in Sydney on 9 August (2008) after a long illness. Alan started his music career as the singer and lead guitarist with legendary Lithgow band The Black Diamonds and wrote most of their material. The band had a large set- list that consisted almost entirely of originals, but sadly only three tracks were ever commercially recorded -- the two sides of their classic debut single "See The Way" / "I Want, Need Love You" (Festival, 1966) and the A-side of their second single "Not This Time" (Festival, 1967). They were reported to be the first pop band from country NSW to score a recording contract without having relocated to Sydney first. The Black Diamonds played extensively around the NSW central west, and they were hailed by The Easybeats as the best support act they ever worked with. They eventually relocated to Sydney in the late Sixties, where their next recording was a version of "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", released under the pseudonym Love Machine. After a name change to Tymepiece, the group released three singles and one superb self-titled progressive album (Infinity, 1971) before splitting up. Alan subsequently joined a later lineup of The Executives as bassist. He spent many years at EMI's Studio 301 in Sydney working on film, TV and radio projects under studio manager Martin Benge, who went on to head Abbey Rd Studios in London.
