First issue out, everybody seemed to enjoy if, selling like crazy. \ First, I would like to recommend some of the places and people who have helped the East Side community around Milwaukee and Wisconsin. Our Avant Garde Coffeehouse deserves large applause. Harold and Suzie Stromier, who started and ran it for years, fine people, and now the present owners, Jim and Gordy, have a beautiful nightly program. / Monday, the New Blues Band, Tuesday, experimental films, Wednesday, excellent poetry program, administered by BobReitman for the last four years, real poet, Thursday, the Velvet Whip, creative psychedelic band, the most creative band I have seen anywhere, very excellent, a complete delight to hear. Friday, Saturday, and Sunday psychedelic and new blues bands. Baroques of UW-M, Whip, others, nice friendly people go there all the time, all the time. I want to recommend the new Indian Head Shop, beautiful place, relaxed atmosphere, George and Livija Johnson, both equally beautiful. Bring records for them to sell. The Big Boy restaurant, who treated us all beautifully for years until too many sandals and orders of Coke got to them. All them nice angel waitresses, I love all of them, they deserve love. The UW-M Post has treated us with great kindness and con­ sideration. Morgan and Barb Gibson, both great poets and friends to our community all along. Morris and Betsey Ed el son, those Texas geniuses, who have helped the Madison scene so much, Southern gentleness. They have new programs this fall in Madison. I will write them as soon as I have dates. We go in the rain night lights to Indian Head and incense. You can intellectualize it and shelve it, but you can't kill it, [you can't touch it...so the revolution goes on. The revolution is like many things. In fact, every thing is in some way like re- evolution. A stone is like the revolution in the perfect order it promises; or the ex- | plosive energy present in its tiniest grain. Man is the object of this revolution; his forms, the forms he has thought into being. So catching a rumour of the revolution I listen... IT listens, that which presents a vehicle for the revolution. The rumour tones more than hope. It tones promise.. .and then the work begins. The dualities descend and purge the system. It's no good projecting the revolu­ tion. It has taken seed within; it has taken seed and threatens to destroy. All forms. All relationships. It threatens to destroy as it purges the system... Many in the battle are scathed, many killed. The process of individuation, therefore, must take place first that power will not corrupt and I eventually destroy the vehicle itself. And only the individual is capable of signifi — I cant sacrifice. The revolution permeates all levels, all classes, all outer departments. There is, no voice proclaiming revolution. There are many voices proclaiming many aspects of the whole revolution. So we can become less separative in our thinking and work with groups and indi­ viduals from many levels. Love is difficult. We see it now as a necessity in the world. Therefore, we see it now as the will to love. It deals with a shift from personal possessive to impersonal all-inclusive. The word "impersonal" falls hard. It denotes detachment. It denotes not bearing the usual fruits — like lovers and friends who say good words. Impersonal is a no-strings-attached "free" love. A love that gives...a very quiet love that gives courage to do the I work oneself. The outward form of the revolution in the time of shifting forms is difficult. Most \ [of the forms are old forms. Most of the forms have to go. Before new integrating [forms are built, old forms must be destroyed. ^^ How to be occupied among the old forms? w4 How to be occupied with meaningful activity? No life's plan among the old forms can be charted. At best the immediate step is known. We work in the dark. Though the way is lighted. We move within without the forms, being not too attached to any one thing. And the revolution ^i i within, the inner development, is silently noted. ™J Outward organization is difficult. It deals with quality groups and creative think­ ers. It deals with united purpose and sacrifice. It deals with short, concentrated, focused group effort. Then the group is dispersed and other groups take form. The battlefield of emotional desire is projected outward and confounds the revolu­ tion. Emotion and desire, once thought the very breath of the creative nature, are now seen as hindrances.
