See the full gallery. It was the s, Sydney, Australia and the gutters were running with blood as the underworld exploded in violence. Vice in the harbour city was dominated by two powerful women - Tilly Devine, a sharp-tongued cockney who ran a chain of 40 brothels, and her bitter rival Kate Leigh, an Aussie battler who'd built an empire out of sly grog, thieving and cocaine. But there was only room for one woman at the top. This 4th Underbelly, that really sends us back in time from stands superior to the others. The acting is amazing, the Tilly Devine role, standing superior to the others, while I also thought Jeremy Lindsay Taylor was bloody frighteningly fantastic as bad. The sets are great, nothing short of faultless, where I especially liked the formation of the Sydney Harbour Bridge in it's early stages. And there is a lot of T and A for bird watches, probably not that much, but there are a lot of sex scenes, throughout the whole series. It's violent too, the flick of many razors, slashing and puncturing skin. The innocent guise of the barrow boy I shouldn't really call him that proves an interesting shock surprise. Again it's another case of cops versus crims, 'put them in the lock up, again free in two hours', whatever, a revolving door. The young lass Anna Graham who of own volition becomes a pro, is good too, clinging onto guys for what they can give em'. She even has a crack as the madam Tilly The Worst Woman in Sydney: The Life and Crimes of Kate Leigh husband, where wifie is too amused. Khan Crittenden is good too as a wanna be thug, who's really played for a sucker sort of character. Hate has a higher plane of meaning with the constant rivalry between Tilly Devine and the other madam, Danielle McCormack who at times had me laughing, her family, really a bunch of no hopers, or people you feel sorry for, especially the daughter. My only critique, though you can't really call it that, as if that's how it went down, was the ending between the two, the showdown of Madams at a gravesite, where both walked away, where it would of been to see them The Worst Woman in Sydney: The Life and Crimes of Kate Leigh, or having only one walk away. If you want engrossing Underbelly fare, the old periodic belly should fill the void, that's if you watch it from the start. Like a mafia flick, you don't know who the next one's gonna be to bite the bullet. The Worst Woman in Sydney: The Life and Crimes of Kate Leigh too, this one, may put you off razors for life. A Case Study in Health Promotion. Abstract 350 words max imum: (PLEAS E TY PE) Prostitution laws were progressively reformed in New South Wales between 1979 and 1996. During the same period, the identification of human immunodeficiency virus infection (HIV) in Australia stimulated the expansion of sexual health services and the introduction of innovative health promotion campaigns targeting the sex industry. These reforms accord well with the recommendations of the Ottawa Charter f or Health Promotion 1986 and appear to have resulted in a dramatic and sustained improvement in the health of Australian female sex workers. My purpose is to document sex industry policy reforms in New South Wales and assess how far the improvement in public health outcomes is attributable to the process of decrirninalisation. I employ a multidisciplinary approach to clarify the interrelationship between health and welfare issues, politics, the law and law enforcement. · My research includes and examination of the history of prostitution in Australia , an analysis of legal and policy developments in New South Wales and other states during the period in question, and a comparative analysis of health studies of prostitutes in Australia and overseas. Improvements in the sexual health of resident female sex workers have occurred throughout Australia, in spite of wide variations in the letter and administration of prostitution law.

For further information contact the UOW Library: [email protected] A suitable job for a woman: women, work and the television crime drama Abstract The first series of the Channel Nine crime drama series, Underbelly, is the starting point for a reflection on the relationship between women, work, crime and feminism. Following a brief description of the episode 'Wise Monkeys' written by Felicity \Packard which features three of the 'real' women involved in Melbourne's gangland murders, the essay considers the significant role women have played in the depiction of crime on television as creators, writers and actors. In the end, it all comes down to power and control, who wins and who loses in what Gregg and Wilson (2010) have identified as the 'cultural economy of infamy' where the playing field is still far from level, either in the television industry or on the 'mean streets' of crime.
