  • Intermarriage and Other Families This Page Shows the Interconnection
Intermarriage and Other Families This page shows the interconnection between the Townsend/Townshend family and some of the thirty-five families with whom there were several marriages between 1700 and 1900. It also gives a brief historical background about those families. Names shown in italics indicate that the family shown is connected with the Townsend/Townshend elsewhere. Baldwin The Baldwin family in Co Cork traces its origins to William Baldwin who was a ranger in the royal forests in Shropshire. He married Elinor, daughter of Sir Edward Herbert of Powys and went to Ireland in the late 16th century. His two sons settled in the Bandon area; the eldest brother, Walter, acquired land at Curravordy (Mount Pleasant) and Garrancoonig (Mossgrove) and the youngest, Thomas, purchased land at Lisnagat (Lissarda) adjacent to Curravordy. Walter’s son, also called Walter, was a Cromwellian soldier and it is through his son Herbert that the Baldwin family in Co Cork derives. Since then we have had a whirlwind of change. Many have faced disappointments and great challenges. Still others find that the normality of their lives has been upended. For too many, illness they have already been living with has been complicated, and great numbers have struggled with or are suffering from COVID-19. We have not been able to give loved ones who have died in these times the funerals we would like to have arranged for them. Those working in what have been classed as ‘essential services’, especially those in all branches of healthcare, are working in a new normality that is at the limit of human endurance. Most of us are being asked to make our contribution by heeding the message: ‘Stay at home’ These are traumatic times for everyone.

  • Ennis Cathedral
Ennis Cathedral: The Building & Its People. Saturday 29th. August 2009 Presented by the Clare Roots Society Clare Roots Society The Clare Roots Society, brainchild of Ennisman Larry Brennan, was formed in April 2006 as an amateur family history group. The Society meets once a month in Ennis, and has approx. 50 members. Anyone with an interest in tracing their family tree is welcome to join. Some members are experienced genealogists while others are novices in the field. In addition to local members, we have some 'virtual' members who live overseas, but who follow our activities via email, and dream that they are in Clare. Activities are advertised in local press and in the Ennis Cathedral church bulletin. Under the Chairmanship of Declan Barron and his committee of Fiona de Buitleir, Eric Shaw, Larry Brennan & Paddy Waldron, guest speakers were arranged at past meetings including Paul O’Donnell of the South Galway genealogy group, Peter Beirne of 'The Manse' Local Studies library in Ennis, Jim Herlihy on the RIC, Liam Curran on Irish Soldiers in the British Army, Jonny Dillon of the Folklore Dept., UCD, and Dr. Pat Nugent of the University of Liverpool amongst others. From our own members, speakers have included Dr. Paddy Waldron, Gerry Kennedy, Ger Madden, Declan Barron, Eric Shaw, Robert Cullen, and Larry Brennan. In addition, we have run a number of hands-on computer workshops on genealogical research and the recording of data. The society works in partnership with Clare County Library in order to add to the wonderful fund of genealogy information already available on their website www.clarelibrary.ie Our biggest project to date, completed in 2008 with the assistance of a grant from the Heritage Council of Ireland, involved transcription of the gravestones in the old Drumcliffe Cemetery.

Clare Foreward Welcome to the Clare Children and Young People’s Plan 2019-2021 (CYPP) developed by the Clare Children and Young People’s Services Committee (CYPSC). Our new Plan 2019-2021 is ambitious and aims to improve the relationships between inter-agency services in Co. Clare to address the needs of children, young people, families and communities. The vision of our CYPSC is that all children and young people of Clare are valued, thriving, safe, content, have equal opportunity, are respected in their lives and are connected to their communities. This Plan is testimony to the commitment shown by of local stakeholders who strive towards making this vision a reality for children and young people in our County. We are committed to working with them to maximise their dignity, autonomy and self-determination whilst providing services that are timely and appropriate for their specific needs. In order to deliver on this ambition, our core principles have been set out in this plan to guide us on our decision-making for the coming years: a) Demonstrate leadership • Identify pieces of work / initiate action where we can show leadership • Demonstrate leadership on improving outcomes for children and young people b) Facilitate interagency collaboration • Clarifying roles and responsibilities of stakeholders • Clarifying internal leadership and authority c) Enable a voice for children and young people d) Being evidence-informed e) Prioritise identified gaps (avoiding duplication) f) Optimise available resources g) Ensure quality responses The Action Plan reflects a set of informed actions gathered from local knowledge, shaped by evidence whilst using the combined knowledge of members of strategic partners working within the wider community of County Clare.
