We are re-investing money being spent on buildings the council no longer needs and creating one stop shops, making it easier for residents to still access council services locally and under one roof. Together with Arch, our development company, we launched our new Economic Strategy earlier this year. We are also in the final stages of producing our Core Strategy which will see 10,000 extra jobs and xx extra homes (including xx affordable homes) in the county and by 2031. In his email Cllr Sanderson also highlighted that in order to help fund these raft of improvements and address other budget pressures the Cabinet were considering proposals to reintroduce charges at a number of the busier tourism and railway station car parks at their meeting on Tuesday 13th November 2018. I can now confirm that Cabinet gave their approval to undertake consultation on the introduction of charges at the most heavily used tourist/visitor and railway car parks. Details of the car parks affected by the proposals and the proposed tariffs at these car parks are listed in Tables 1 to 3 appended to this letter. Service 2 Blyth - Morpeth The route will be simplified, with all buses running as service 2 between Blyth and Morpeth (there will no longer be a 2A service number). The route will remain as it is now, but with all buses running via Stead Lane in Bedlington. Service 4 Callerton - Metrocentre Nexus contract service withdrawn and will be replaced by the new 84/84A service Service 10/11 Newcastle - Blyth Service will now be replaced in parts by the X10 and X11 which will now operate evening services. The 43 will replace the 10/11 in the evenings between Cramlington and Newcastle. This will provide a faster, half hourly service to Seaton Burn, with reduced services after 1800. Service 144 Morpeth - Thropton This will be replaced by the Service 14 between Morpeth and Thropton. There will be no changes to this route. It will continue to Newcastle as the X14. Service 18 Ashington - Morpeth The service will be replaced by the new service 36 which will provide a more frequent hourly service.

    C CABINET Date: 13th November 2018 ___________________________________________________________________ IMPROVEMENTS AND INVESTMENT IN PARKING PROVISION Report of the Executive Director of Place, Paul Johnston Cabinet Member: Councillor Glen Sanderson, Environment and Local Services ___________________________________________________________ Purpose of Report To provide an update on the progress being made against the parking Action Plans that have been agreed for each of the 4 main market towns of Hexham, Berwick, Alnwick and Morpeth, and on progress with other works to improve parking provision across the County. To detail the proposed means by which the Council will fund its investment in car parks, including through a combination of increasing existing charges and ​ introducing new charges at a number of tourism and railway station car parks. The report seeks approval to the list of car parks, proposed tariffs, consultation arrangements and outlines the process and timetable for implementation should the proposal be approved by Full Council when setting the MTFP in February 2019. Recommendations It is recommended that Cabinet: 1. Notes the good progress being made against the action plans for each of the four main market towns of Hexham, Berwick, Alnwick and ​ Morpeth, and the progress with other works to improve parking provision across the County. 2. Approves the allocation from the £10m capital funding provision made in the MTFP for parking improvements, of:- 1 a. £25,000 to enable scheme design and planning application submission to be progressed for the proposed development of a long stay car park on land adjacent to the railway lines on the north side of Berwick Railway Station; b. £50,000 for the implementation of on-street parking improvements in the area under / near to the Royal Tweed Bridge, Tweedmouth to deliver an additional 16 long -stay spaces including 3 disabled bays at a cost of £50,000.
