It has the common association of "Spirituality", "Balance", "Integration", "Beauty", "Miracles", and "Compassion". Description In the Bahir it states: "Sixth is the adorned, glorious, delightful throne of glory, the house of the world to come. Its place is engraved in wisdom as it says 'God said: Let there be light, and there was light.'" [2] Tiferet is the force that integrates the Sefira of Chesed ("compassion") and Gevurah ("Strength, or Judgement (din)"). These two forces are, respectively, expansive (giving) and restrictive (receiving). Either of them without the other could not manifest the flow of Divine energy; they must be balanced in perfect proportion by balancing compassion with discipline. This balance can be seen in the role of Tiferet, wherein the conflicting forces are harmonized, and creation flowers forth. Tiferet also balances Netzach and Hod in a similar manner. In that case Hod can be seen as the intellect where Netzach is seen as emotion. Tiferet also occupies a place on the middle pillar, and can be seen as a lower reflection of Kether, as well as a higher reflection of Yesod and Malkuth.

    Conceptualizations of Tzimtzum in Baroque Italian Kabbalah Moshe Idel Abstract The paper will survey the ways in which three Kabbalists active in Italy at the end of the 16th and early 17th centuries transformed the Lurianic concept of divine contraction: Menahem Azariah of Fano, Joseph Shlomo of Candia, and Abraham Herrera. The main point of this essay is to analyze the contribution of philosophical concepts to the inter- pretion of Luria’s mythopoeic method.     The Way to the Tree of Life Jewish practice entails fulfilling many laws. Our diet is limited, our days to work are defined, and every aspect of life has governing directives. Is observance of all the laws easy? Is a perfectly righteous life close to our heart and near to our limbs? A righteous life seems to be an impossible goal! However, in the Torah, our great teacher Moshe, Moses, declared that perfect fulfillment of all religious law is very near and easy for each of us.     PHED ITEM #3 January 25, 2021 Worksession M E M O R A N D U M January 20, 2021 TO: Planning, Housing, and Economic Development (PHED) Committee FROM: Gene Smith, Legislative Analyst SUBJECT: Review of Pandemic-related Business Assistance Programs PURPOSE: Discussion, no votes expected Those expected for this worksession: Jerome Fletcher, Office of the County Executive Laurie Boyer, Office of the County Executive Ben Wu, Montgomery County Economic Development Corporation (MCEDC) Bill Tompkins, MCEDC Sarah Miller, MCEDC The PHED committee requested a review of all the business assistance programs implemented by the County in response to the COVID-19 pandemic. Program implementation was divided between the County and the MCEDC. I. Background and Summary The COVID-19 pandemic has created an uneven recession with certain industry sectors more impacted than others. Hospitality, leisure, restaurants, and retail businesses have seen the largest decline in economic activity. Much of this decline is due to the State and County health orders that restrict gathering size to limit the spread of the virus. While there was some expectation that the health orders and restrictions would be short-term measures, the reality is the pandemic has required that these orders remain in place for many months. The Council created many new business assistance programs for the impacted industry sectors to respond to this uneven recession. These new programs were funded and administered by the County or its partners. This memo provides a summary for each program implemented and includes detailed program information in the attachments. Table 1 provides an overview of all the programs included in this report.

    מים רבים Mayim Rabbim 285 FOREWORD or almost 28 years, the weekday pattern had been constant. The Rebbe Fwould join the communal prayers for the Torah readings on Monday and Thursday mornings around 10 AM, and every day at 3:15 for the Afternoon Service, and 6:45 for the Evening Service in the winter and 9:30 in the sum- mer.1 On Shabbos and festivals he would come an hour after candle-lighting for the Evening Service, and at 10 AM for the Morning Service. There were no vacations, no sick days; he was always there. Then in 5738 (1978), on the eve of Shemini Atzeres, in the middle of Hakkafos, he felt chest pains. Everyone was asked to leave the shul except for a small minyan. He completed the Hakkafos, went up to his room, and began receiving medical treatment. It was discovered that he had undergone a severe heart attack; he would undergo a second early the following morning. The chassidim were in utter shock throughout those two nervous days of celebration. On the one hand, Shemini Atzeres and Simchas Torah are days – indeed, the days – of rejoicing. On the other hand, with the Rebbe sick, how could one genuinely rejoice?! Reassuringly, on the evening following Simchas Torah, the Rebbe spoke from his room. His words were broadcast to the chassidic community who had gathered in “770” to hear and, by telephone hookup, to chassidim worldwide. His words were later transcribed, submitted to the Rebbe who edited them, and then they were published. Since chassidim were not present in the Rebbe’s room at the time, his words were not preceded by a niggun.
