Vice M.R. Schunker, the former Vice-Chief of Naval Staff has been appointed as the Director General,

Coast Guard, following the retirement of Viee Admiral S. Parkash,

Admiral Schunker joined the in 1943 and served on board patrol vessels and minesweepers during the

Second World War, After Independence, he served on board INS JAM[JNA and SUTLRJ before proceeding to the UK where he specialised in Gunnery. Thereafter, he served in various gunnery appointments including that of Squadron Gunnery Officer of the 11th Destroyer Squadron and Gunnery Officer .f the Cruiser, INS MYSORE when she was commissioned in 197. In 1960, Admiral Schunker commanded the destroyer, INS RANA after which he did a tenure at Naval Headquarters in the Directorate of Naval Plans before taking up the appcint r ment of Fleet Operations Officer to the Flag Officer Commanding Indian Fleet. Later, he commanded INS AMBA, the submarine depot ship, INS KTIMJALI, the provost establishment and INS VALSURA, the Electrical training establishment.
