That’s why; this region is classified by the UNDP among the nine hot spots in Albania. The selected surface for study is around 200km2. The oil and gas field of Fier area is considered as one of the less managed zones, because of absence and damages in land, water and air, where the throwing of the oil waste in surface has not permitted the development of pedogenic processes. It has brought the deficit of soil, and consequently the right agrarian cultivation has not been permitted. The light hydrocarbons, which disturbed the two cities, introduce toxic indications in concentration of 3-5mg/l. Among the main problems are the stream waters that have in their composition oil components, such as phenol, different hydrocarbons, tension-active matters, etc.

JICA selected and dispatched a study team, headed by Mr. Yoshiaki Shibata of Mitsubishi Materials Techno Corporation, consisting of experts from Mitsubishi Materials Techno Corporation and Kokusai Kogyo Co., Ltd., for six times between a period from May 2009 to November 2010. The spatial distribution of the water resources in Albanian territory is heterogeneous due to a high variability of climatic and land characteristics. The parameter chosen for the regionalisation is the specific yield. The long-term average of specific yield has a spatial variability of 10 to 100 l/s/km2 in Albanian territory. The data used include the period 1951-1990 of 80 hydrometric stations distributed in whole Albanian hydrographic network. The lower limit of catchment area (basin) of 100 km2 is accepted. As the result are established two maps. In the first one is presented the general regionalisation of water resources according to the concept of high and low water resources. The second one presents the more detailed regionalisation that includes 8classes. This is the first attempt of the regionalisation of the water resources in Albanian territory. The reform has started in 1994. In January 1997, the Department of Family Medicine at the Faculty of Medicine, University of Tirana, was established for the development of general practice and family med- icine, and with it a new era in medical education in Albania has begun. Mutual agreements for international collabora- tions are being realized, modern medical textbooks are being published, and the importance of continuous medical education is gaining a deserved appreciation. Here we describe medical education in Albania, including undergradu- ate education, vocational training, and continuing professional development. The emphasis is given on primary care, with some suggestions for concrete actions that would improve the current situation. A brief descriptive account is given of the ongoing Albanian medical education reform, primarily in the field of primary health care, which assumes its most interesting global aspects and at the same time reflects the unique demands of the country.
