At this point, I only think it is a shame that Marvel has not collected the remaining run, as it contains several relevant plot elements that bear fruition in The Infinity Gauntlet including the Surfer's visit to Soul World and Starlin's first signalling the return of Adam Warlock. Continuing directly from the events of the pages of Captain Marvel, after Thanos became God and, eventually, getting killed, Lady Death decides to revive him and grant him the freedom to go after the Infinity Gems, being the Silver Surfer the first one to notice his comeback, and willing to go after him to stop the Mad Titan, whose power is just as equal if not greater as his. It's great because it'll pump you up before you read IG, but I was sorry not to see Adam Warlock here. Thanos Quest involves gathering the gems from its current keepers by mostly mind games and trickery. All in all, this is the good stuff, and I recommend it heartily. Oh and Thanos also fell in love with Death. Open Preview See a Problem? Once Surfer figures out Thanos is up to no good, we get some pretty funny issues with Impossible Man and a new and dumber take on Drax the Destroyer. Thanos proves that he is not just more powerful than the Surfer, he is also more clever. This collection contains the third major appearance of Thanos and starts him on a road that will quickly lead to the Infinity Gauntlet event. This was amazing. The death was decided by fans, as DC Comics set up a hotline for readers to vote on as to whether or not Jason Todd should survive a potentially fatal situation. Ron Lim a 2nd or third re-read and it gets more enjoyable every time. Basically, he's me. The story is immediately captivating and stays this way as the narrative becomes more and more intense. It may also have the Surfer's name on it, but this is definitely Thanos' tale of darkness. This book is only for fans of Starlin's cosmic Marvel stories, specifically stories drawn by Ron Lim that relate to the Infinity Gauntlet. Another aspect of this volume that really ups its appeal is the historical importance of what happens within this collection. Fun fac Wow. With a career dating back to the early s, he is best known for "cosmic" tales and space opera; for revamping the Marvel Comics characters Captain Marvel and Adam Warlock; and for creating or co-creating the Marvel characters Thanos and Shang-Chi, Master of Kung Fu. The more recent edition collects the same Silver Surfer run, but the story continues most essentially in the two issue Thanos Quest miniseries, which runs directly into the Infinity Gauntlet. After reading The Infinity Gauntlet , I wanted to see just how Thanos got that super-powered glove of his. Although the Mad Titan worshipped Death, Warlock made it so that part of Thanos' consciousness remained trapped within his stone form, denying him a true death. Overall enjoyed. In some places, a lot of panels are used in quick succession to show an emotional change or convey a lot of information; in other places, a much larger spread is used to highlight an important moment. Can the Silver Surfer, Drax the Destroyer and others stop the cosmic iconoclast before he uses reality as a token of his affection for Death? The Mad Titan constructed a synthetic soul stone which he used in an attempt to extinguish the stars. The Silver Surfer fights the Impossible Man. This collection also acts as a handy prelude to The Infinity Gauntlet. Our latest Masterworks offers you two heroes for the price of one! Infinity Gauntlet is the next book in this series. It's not really the same as Chris Claremont's brand which centers more around characters explaining all their physical actions to the reader --rather, in the case of Starlin's characters, they feel the need to detail everything they're thinking to the reader, because apparently that's the only way we can get plot points across. The artwork is also really good too. Reading The Infinity Gauntlet several times already, I've always wandered how Thanos came into possession of the Gems, as well as the acknowledgment from Silver Surfer of the Titan's quest, and reading this I've only come to love the mega-event as double. Considering how improved the art is, now we have Ron Lim re-designing and providing greater vitality to these cosmic beings, and combining Jim Starlin's fantastic letters fueled with imagination and thought-provoking themes towards these relics and characters, these two issues are some of Marvel's best materials, but my praise goes fully to both book: The Thanos Quest, illustrated by Lim but colored by Tom Vincent in such beautiful fashion. Ultimately, Thanos fails to convince the Surfer, although he is able to toy with the hero quite easily. Enlarge cover. Following the events of Avengers vs. Thanos had first appeared in an issue of Iron Man by Starlin, but had then quickly been drawn into his run on Captain Marvel and the played an integral part his Warlock saga , both of which established Starlin as a great storyteller within cosmic superhero genre. It's a solid classic. I read this on the iPad. But the highlight here is the two part mini-series Thanos Quest. There are no discussion topics on this book yet. Thanos proves that he is not just more powerful than the Surfer, he is also more clever. I loved this one. He'll do great work at this point forward in time. After having finished both books, I kind of wish I'd read them in order, but the experience was still enjoyable this way. Even non-comic book readers will associate the Mad Titan with his iconic snap , thanks to the MCU's adaptation of the comic book epic. Thanos Quest revealed to me of his intricate scheming and being the master schemer that he is who doesn't require the stones to complete him How to make him just over-the-top enough I wish I had re read this before reading The Infinity Gauntlet. First, it pits him against the Silver Surfer in a few well thought-out encounters.

    THE SILVER SURFER STORY/OUTLINE DRAFT 1 “BATTLECRY” WRITTEN BY LARRY BRODY TEASER 1. EXT. THE SOUL MASTER DIMENSION. A scene we’ve witnessed before—but a more pleasant version this time. It’s the SILVER SURFER, SHALLA BAL, and the VIRAL OVERMIND, working together to save Zenn-La and the rest of the planets in this dimension. Except that this time Shalla Bal is not left behind. Instead, she makes it through just in time, rushing into the Silver Surfer’s arms! The Surfer starts to kiss her, and now Shalla Bal vanishes, only her voice remaining, crying out that she is in a dark, frightening place, and begging for the Surfer’s help in getting her out. 2. EXT. SPACE NEAR ZENN-LA. The Surfer soars all around, searching—and awakens to discover that he is flying upward from the now safe Zenn-La…and that everything that just happened was a dream. Yet even now he hears Shalla 2 Bal calling to him, her voice fading out only after the dream has ended. 3. As the Surfer ponders this, he realizes that he is hearing another distress call through a COM BEAM. It’s the leader of a group of REFUGEES, fleeing from a planet that has just fallen to the KREE EMPIRE, and asking for a safe haven. Right behind the Refugees is a KREE FLEET, and the pursuers begin FIRING THEIR ENERGY WEAPONS, hitting not only the Refugees but the Silver Surfer as well! He’s hit again and again in rapid succession, reeling weakly to one knee, as we FADE OUT.
