Pires & M. F. V. Corley Abstract This work includes Lepidoptera records obtained from field work carried out in the area known as “Baixo Mondego” or the Lower Mondego Valley (Beira Litoral) over the years 1998 to 2005. The three main sampling are- as were chosen for having some special statute of protection. The localities show some diversity in spite of their clo- se geographical proximity. Of a total number of 570 species listed in this work, 28 are additions to Portuguese fauna of which eight are also new for the Iberian Peninsula. Tidskr. 102 83-97 . Lund, Sweden 1981. ISSN 0013-886x. The series introduced in 1974 is continued for the eight year. Eight species were found new to Sweden in 1980, Evetria (Pettova) perangustana Snell., Endothenia hebesana Wlk., Endothenia sp., Choreuthis montelli Hackm., Psamathocrita osseella Stt., Chrysoclista razowskii Riedl, Spuleria flavicaput Hw. and Coleophora partitella Z. Seven more species are reported for the first time in 1980 though collected earlier, Ephestia mistralella Mill., Aclerii fuscana Barnes & Busck, Xystophora carchariella Stt., Plutelle (Rhigognostis) annulatella Cwl., Plutella (Rhigognostis) sp., Incurvaria (Lampronia) circulella Zett. and Adela (Cauchas) breviantennel/a Niels. & Joh. The species commonly interpreted as Plutella annulatella has to be named Plutella schmaltzella Zett. Two species, Scoparia resinea Hw. and Stomopteryx larseniella Gozm., are to be deleted. At present 1936 species of Microlepidoptera are known from Sweden. Additionally, data for some rare species are given. In a separate part species new to Swedish provinces are listed. G. M. Bond1 and J. P. O’Connor2 1Department of Zoology and Animal Ecology, School of BEES, University College Cork, Distillery Fields, North Mall, Cork, Ireland. e-mail: <[email protected]> 2Emeritus Entomologist, National Museum of Ireland, Kildare Street, Dublin 2, Ireland. Abstract Additions, deletions and corrections are made to the Irish checklist of butterflies and moths (Lepidoptera). Elachista biatomella (Stainton, 1848) is added to the Irish list. The total number of confirmed Irish species of Lepidoptera now stands at 1480. Key words: Lepidoptera, additions, deletions, corrections, Irish list, Elachista biatomella Introduction Bond, Nash and O’Connor (2006) provided a checklist of the Irish Lepidoptera. Since its publication, many new discoveries have been made and are reported here. In addition, several deletions have been made. A concise and updated checklist is provided. The following abbreviations are used in the text: BM(NH) – The Natural History Museum, London; NMINH – National Museum of Ireland, Natural History, Dublin. The total number of confirmed Irish species now stands at 1480, an addition of 68 since Bond et al. (2006). Taxonomic arrangement As a result of recent systematic research, it has been necessary to replace the arrangement familiar to British and Irish Lepidopterists by the Fauna Europaea [FE] system used by Karsholt 60 Bulletin of the Irish Biogeographical Society No. 36 (2012) and Razowski, which is widely used in continental Europe. -

Summary: The ten species of the genera Syncopacma and Aproaerema which have so far been established in the study area of the Lepidopterist's Society of Rhineland and Westphalia are discussed here on the basis of lists of where they were found and dispersal charts. 1. -
INSECT PESTS of GROUNDNUT (Arachis Hypogaea L.), NATURE of DAMAGE and SUCCESSION with the CROP STAGES
ISSN 0258-7122 Bangladesh J. Agril. Res. 39(2): 273-282, June 2014 INSECT PESTS OF GROUNDNUT (Arachis hypogaea L.), NATURE OF DAMAGE AND SUCCESSION WITH THE CROP STAGES G. C. BISWAS1 Abstract Thirty six species of insect pests were found to infest the different growth stages of groundnut crop at Gazipur, Bangladesh during the rabi seasons of 2008-09 and 2009-010. Among the recorded pest species, the hairy caterpillar, Spilarctia obliqua ( Walker); common cutworm, Spodoptera litura F.; jassid, Empoasca terminalis Distant ; leaf miner, Stomopteryx nerteria M. and leaf roller, Anersia ephippias (Meyr.) were considered as the major pests, while the rests were of minor importance on the basis of their population densities/plant, nature and extent of damage and yield reductions. Most of the major and minor pests infested during the vegetative to pre-maturity stages (45-95 DAS) and the maximum infestation occurred during pod formation and pod filling stages (50- 80 DAS) of the crop in both the years. Keywords: Insect pests, groundnut, damage, succession, crop stages. Introduction Groundnut (Arachis hypogaea L.) is an important oilseed crop in Bangladesh on the basis of both in acreage and annual production (Biswas et al,. 2000; Mondal and Wahhab, 2001.) Its cultivation covered about 87,000 hectares and produced about 1,25,000 metric tons of seeds during 2011-12 (Krishi Diary, 2013). One of the major constraints to the successful groundnut production in Bangladesh is the damage caused by insect and mite pests. Studies reveal that 15 - 20 percent of the total oilseed production is lost directly or indirectly by the attack of insect and mite pests every year (Biswas and Das, 2011). -

INTRODUCTION Five years elapsed since the curator emeritus of the Lepidoptera col- lection, the renowned Microlepidoptera specialist of the Hungarian Natu- ral History Museum, Dr LÁSZLÓ GOZMÁNY passed away. The festive volume of the journal Acta zoologica Academiae scientiarum hungaricae for his 85th anniversary was only posthumously published (BÁLINT 2007), which actually included the funeral oration (MATSKÁSI 2007). In the same year two commemorations were published in the journals of the two lepi- dopterists’ societies, where he had been elected as honorary member (BÁLINT et al. -

The new species is most similar to S. illustrella (Hübner, 1796) and S. orientalis Li & Zheng, 1998 from which it can be reliably distinguished by characters of the genitalia. Sophronia iciculata Omelko, 1999, syn. n., is a junior synonym of S. orientalis; and S. marginella Toll, 1936, syn. n., is a junior synonym of S. consanguinella Herrich-Schaffer, [1854]. Sophronia alaicella Caradja, 1920 is redescribed, and the adult and the male and female geni- talia are illustrated. -
