June 23, 2017 Toyota Motor Corporation GAZOO Racing Company Rally Poland: Preview TOYOTA GAZOO Racing accelerates onto super-fast Polish stages The TOYOTA GAZOO Racing World Rally Team will take on some of the fastest roads in the FIA World Rally Championship on Rally Poland from June 29 to July 2, when it will look to continue its strong momentum last time out in Sardinia. Now the team faces a brand-new challenge on rapid gravel stages that are very different from those of southern Europe, but with the possibility of more very hot weather. Car 10(Jari-Matti Latvala, Miikka Anttila) Although it is the fourth consecutive round held on gravel, Rally Poland poses a very different challenge to the events held before it, with soft, sandy and flowing stages. The high speeds can be similar to those seen on Rally Finland, so it will provide a good opportunity for the team and three crews to develop the performance of the Yaris WRC in these demanding conditions ahead of the following round. Rally Poland is based at the town of Mikolajki in the north-east of the country, where a super special stage hosts the opening stage on Thursday evening. It features again at the end of both Friday and Saturday’s action, when it follows two loops of four stages. The rally ends on Sunday with two stages ran twice, featuring the new 18.68-kilometre Paprotki test that serves as the event-closing Power Stage. To prepare for next week’s rally, all three drivers took part in a test on gravel in Estonia, using similar roads to those that will be seen in Poland. -

Ogier/Ingrassia claim fourth WRC title in a row with Volkswagen § Crowned with a win: Ogier/Ingrassia wrap up world title after eleven rallies § Title defence sees champions join Kankkunen and Mäkinen in exclusive club § Match point number two for Volkswagen in the Manufacturers’ Championship Wolfsburg (16 October 2016). Sébastien Ogier/Julien Ingrassia (F/F) were crowned World Rally Champions for the fourth time in a row after taking victory at the Rally Spain. They guided their Volkswagen Polo R WRC to a fifth win of the season in Catalonia, finishing ahead of Dani Sordo/Marc Martí (E/E, Hyundai) und Thierry Neuville/Nicolas Gilsoul (B/B, Hyundai). Their ninth podium in eleven races triggered wild celebrations. The Frenchmen can no longer be caught at the top of the overall standings in the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). Team-mates Andreas Mikkelsen/Anders Jæger (N/N) went into the Rally Spain as their closest rivals in the title race, but the Norwegians’ hopes of winning the championship were dashed when they were forced to retire from the rally. Eighth place in the Manufacturers’ classifications for Jari-Matti Latvala/Miikka Anttila (FIN/FIN) means Volkswagen is well- placed to claim its fourth Manufacturers’ title in a row next time out at the Rally Great Britain. Kankkunen, Mäkinen and Ogier – up there with the biggest names in rallying 952 days in a row at the top of the table: Sébastien Ogier is only the third World Rally Champion to be crowned champion four years in a row in the pinnacle of rallying, and the fourth four-time world champion in the history of the FIA World Rally Championship (WRC). -

MEDIA INFORMATION Rally Guanajuato Mexico 2015 2015 FIA World Rally Championship Michelin tyres contribute to a spectacular show in Mexico Overall victory with Ogier/Ingrassia WRC2 honours with Nasser Al-Attiyah/Matthieu Baumel The Rally Guanajuato Mexico 2015 ended today, Sunday, March 8, with another victory for Sébastien Ogier and Julien Ingrassia. The French duo put their N°1 Michelin-equipped Volkswagen Polo R WRC on the top step of the podium after a polished display. Helped by a bold but effective tyre choice, they pulled out a useful lead on Friday before their cushion was extended as their biggest threats encountered a variety of problems. A high number of front-runners were effectively caught out by the slippery stages and few WRC crews didn’t have to make use of the Rally2 ruling to reach the finish. Ogier/Ingrassia were joined on the podium by two Norwegians who revelled in the slippery conditions, since Citroën DS3 WRC pair Mads Ostberg/Jonas Andersson and Andreas Mikkelsen/Ola Floene were second and third respectively. Rally Guanajuato Mexico 2015 was an important event for Michelin whose new LTX Force H4 and S4 gravel tyres were making their first appearance on the North American round. Gravel rallies are the most frequent on the World Rally Championship calendar, with nine out of 13 rounds in 2015. Each one throws up its own unique challenge because of its specific stages, profile and weather. In Mexico, when the conditions are dry, the surface is generally coated in a covering of loose sand and gravel which makes ‘road sweeping’ a particularly influential parameter. -

The Loudon-clear guide to… Rally Sweden Hello. So, snow. Except this time the story’s about the snow’s Swedish no- snow. It’s a huge shame that the recent warm weather has conspired to take the edge off what has to be one of the biggest sporting spectacles of the season: World Rally Cars dancing on ice. The World Rally Championship is full of stop-you-in-your-tracks moments and the sight of a World Rally Car on the lock-stops – front corner nibbling a snowbank at the apex while the opposite corner leans on a wall and fires powder 15 feet in the air – is right up there. Right up there. But it’s not to be this time. The warm weather has forced a complete rethink of the route and even blizzard conditions for the rest of the week wouldn’t be enough to deliver the perfect winter rally. Recipe for perfect winter roads: heavy (like heavy, heavy) snow, semi-melt, deep-freeze, light snow shower. The semi-melt puts moisture into the road and snow base which, when frozen hard, provides a rock-solid ice base for the studded tyres to dig into. The freeze will also pack the snowbanks really hard, allowing the guys to go a gear higher through some corners. We’re missing a couple of elements of that recipe this week! This week will be about staying out of trouble and keeping as many studs in place as possible. That in itself provides an intriguing event, however. Let’s see who can drive smart as well as super-quick in these compromised and challenging conditions. -

MEDIA INFORMATION 2018 FIA World Rally Championship Round 2/14: Rally Sweden Michelin’s studded tyre range covers all the bases in mixed conditions Once again, Rally Sweden lived up every bit to its promise, despite crews having to cope with a taxing blend of ice, snow and exposed gravel. As usual, fans turned out in huge numbers and flocked to the event’s famous spectator spots like ‘Colin’s Crest’ where the cars take off and perform spectacular leaps of up to and more than forty metres. To help them rise to the challenge posed by this year’s Rally Sweden, Michelin provided its WRC partners with the MICHELIN X-Ice North 3 equipped with 384 studs to bite into the frozen ground. Meanwhile, its partners competing in the WRC2 Pro (for factory teams) and WRC2 (privateers) classes ran the MICHELIN X-Ice NA01, a brand new studded tyre designed specifically for championship’s R5 cars. “In the end, the conditions were better than we had been expecting,” observed Arnaud Rémy, the manager of Michelin’s rally programmes. “By that I mean they were colder and more typical than the forecasts had led us to believe. There were fewer portions of exposed dirt than some had been predicting, too. For sure, the coating of ice was quite thin at times but our studs stood up better than some drivers had anticipated through the more challenging potions. Indeed, thanks to the exclusive studding technique we employ [see below], our tyres hardly lost any studs at all and the lack of grip that was reported at times was due more to the presence of water and slush. -

2018 MEDIA GUIDE Rallye Deutschland August 16 - 19, 2018 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 Rallye Deutschland August 16 - 19, 2018 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Welcome to Rallye Deutschland, Hyundai Motorsport’s home event, which takes place during a very exciting time for the WRC with both title battles finely balanced. Although last month’s Rally Finland didn’t produce the ultimate result for our team, Hayden finished just outside the podium places after a strong drive. Thierry and Nicolas continue to lead the Drivers’ championship with an advantage of 21 points, while the Hyundai Shell Mobis World Rally Team heads the Manufacturers’ championship by 26 points so there’s plenty of reason to be positive. I must also congratulate our HMDP crew of Jari and Antti for recording their first WRC2 podium of the year with second in that class. Rallye Deutschland is the first tarmac event on the calendar since Tour de Corse in April. Since then we’ve worked on improving the suspension, especially the dampers, and centre differential mapping with two aims in mind: to achieve more grip for the Hyundai i20 Coupe WRC and find a better balance. This follows feedback from our drivers during Corsica where they reported being hampered by understeer. Our three drivers for Germany – Thierry, Dani and Andreas – have all sampled the changes during development testing and they also got the opportunity to finalise their set-ups during the recent pre-event test, which took place over five days so we could experience the vineyard roads and those within the Baumholder military range, which are very specific to this rally. -

2016 Rally Sweden February 11 - 14, 2016 ROUND 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8 9 10 11 12 13 14 Rally Sweden February 11 - 14, 2016 2016 HYUNDAI’S HELLO Welcome to Rally Sweden, round two of the 2016 FIA World Rally Championship and another new challenge for Hyundai Motorsport. Rally Sweden will be the second event for the New Generation i20 WRC and a second different surface. We have tested on snow back in December and again last week with the new car and it’s gone well with no major issues. The drivers have been happy too; they’ve found good set-ups for the differential and the dampers so I think they are all quite confident. Thierry finished second in Sweden last year in the 2015 car but the drivers say that the New Generation i20 WRC feels even better. The car is a bit longer so it should be more stable on fast sections of road like you get in Sweden. We believe we have gained a bit of traction too, which is important on a low-grip surface like snow. In Sweden the car runs on gravel specification but there are specific details you can prepare for this event. You don’t want to get too much snow in the car because it adds extra weight so you have to make sure it is well sealed, inside the wheel arches and underneath the car. Also, because of the cold temperatures we don’t have to cool down the car as much as usual so we’ll use a different radiator. -
