Invest India Conference

The second Annual Invest India Conference was held in Toronto on 4 - 5 September 2018. It commenced with a Reception and Inaugural Session in the evening of 4 September 2018 and concluded with a full-day Conference on 5 September 2018 at Sheraton Toronto Centre Toronto Hotel. The Conference was organized by Fairfax Financial Holdings Limited in association with Canada-India Business Council (CIBC) and with the support of Consulate General of India, Toronto and IIFL Holdings Limited. The Conference featured senior government representatives from both the countries as well as leading corporate executives from Canada and India. Key names included: Mr. Suresh Prabhu, Hon'ble Union Minister of Commerce & Industry and Civil Aviation of India (through video message); Mr. Vikas Swarup, High Commissioner of India to Canada; Mr. Dinesh Bhatia, Consul General of India in Toronto; Rt. Consul General Mr. Dinesh Bhatia attended an event to celebrate Indian films and talent on 9 September at the ongoing Toronto International Film Festival. He addressed the gathering and summed up the India-Canada relationship in 3Cs, namely, Community, Cuisine and Cinema. He urged the participants to drive efforts in their own way to create exposure for various segments of Indian Cinema, other than Bollywood. Consul General received Mr. Desh Deepak Verma, Hon. Secretary General of Rajya Sabha and Mrs. Snehlata Shrivastava, Hon. They were visiting Toronto for the prestigious Meeting of the Society of Clerks-at-the-Table in Commonwealth Parliaments from 4-7 September, 2018 along with a delegation of 8 members which included principal secretaries and secretaries from various state legislative assemblies of India including Delhi, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu & Kashmir, Madhya Pradesh and . Consul General met Mr. Mr. Rajnish Kumar, Chairman, State Bank of India over Dinner hosted by Mr. Rajesh Gupta, President & CEO, SBI Canada. They discussed financial best practices followed in Canada and how can India benefit from these practices. The dinner was also attended by the Board Members of SBI Canada.

Mattis, USA to India Minister of External Affairs and Minister of Defence Nirmala Sitharaman welcomed Secretary of State Michael R. Pompeo and Secretary of Defense James N. Mattis to India on September 6, 2018 for the inaugural India-U.S. Ministerial 2+2 Dialogue. They welcomed the launch of the 2+2 Dialogue as a reflection of the shared commitment by Prime Minister Modi and President Trump to provide a positive, forward-looking vision for the India-U.S. strategic partnership and to promote synergy in their diplomatic and security efforts. They resolved to continue meetings in this format on an annual basis. Recognizing their two countries are strategic partners, major and independent stakeholders in world affairs, the Ministers committed to work together on regional and global issues, including in bilateral, trilateral, and quadrilateral formats.
