Matthew Pavlich

In his first year as Club Captain, Matthew Pavlich led from the front to claim his fourth Doig Medal as the club’s in season in 2007. The record-making win in this year’s Doig Medal capped off another outstanding year that saw Matthew earn his fifth All Australian selection after dominating up forward, booting a club season record 72 goals at an average of 3.4 per game. His 300th career goal came in round 19 against Essendon. His 22 games in 2007 continued his consecutive games streak to 144, having not missed a game since round 15, 2001, and took his career tally to 175 games. This season Matthew led the AFL in marks with 203 at an average of 9.2 per game and collected 381 disposals at an average of 17.3 per game. His impressive season also saw him named Captain of the SANFL’s honorary 2007 State of Origin team. The 2007 Doig Medal win, his third in succession, follows his wins in 2002, 2005 and 2006 and makes Matthew the record holder for most Doig Medals having shared the record previously with Peter Bell who won in 2001, 2003 and 2004. Matthew was runner-up in 2003 and finished in third place in 2004. The captain sealed the season by committing to the club for another three seasons.

Antoni Grover

Defender Antoni Grover was rewarded for his outstanding and arguably his best season receiving his first top three finish in the Doig Medal as runner-up to Matthew Pavlich. Reflecting a consistent year in the club’s defence, this year he averaged 13.5 possessions and 4.6 marks per game. He failed to poll a vote in only six of his 21 games this season. Regularly handed the job of containing some of the league’s most damaging forwards, Antoni stamped his authority as one of the competition’s most effective shut down defenders in 2007 and was rewarded for his endeavours with his first selection in the WA State of Origin team. Promoted from the club’s , Antoni made his AFL debut in round 21 1999 against Sydney at the WACA Ground. He has gone on to play 129 games for the club.
