LEADERSHIP PROGRAMS

ASPEN GLOBAL LEADERSHIP NETWORK/SEMINARS CAMPAIGN

The Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN) is a worldwide community of entrepreneurial leaders from business, government and civil society who are committed to values-based leadership. Through leadership initiatives in the United States and around the world, the AGLN is spurring these leaders – or “Fellows” – to move from success to significance.

Fellows undertake a two-year series of intensive leadership seminars – including the Aspen Institute’s signature Aspen Seminar – and design innovative leadership projects that translate the ideals discussed in the seminars into action, addressing some of the foremost societal challenges of our time. Currently, the AGLN comprises nearly 1,000 Fellows from 43 countries. Our goal is to build a network of 2,500 Fellows in 55 countries by 2020, creating a potent and enduring global community of leaders united by values and mobilized to change the world.

The Aspen Institute has launched a campaign to make this goal a reality. Gifts to the Aspen Global Leadership Network/Seminars Campaign provide vital scholarship assistance for Fellows to come together with peers from around the world, forging new opportunities for collaboration and impact. The campaign also supports the Aspen Seminar, which all AGLN Fellows attend in 20-member cohorts, and which is offered separately to other leaders from business and beyond.

Gift Opportunities ƒ Scholarship funds can be created for current use (i.e., expended over 1-3 years) or established as endowments that will provide a permanent stream of support for campaign priorities. Donors may direct their gifts toward Fellows participating in one or more AGLN program components; toward Fellows from specific AGLN leadership initiatives; or toward participants of the Aspen Seminar. ƒ Underwriting opportunities are available for donors who wish to sponsor a specific event or series of events. ƒ Unrestricted gifts allow the Aspen Institute to apply the funds where the needs of the AGLN and the Seminars program are greatest in any given year.

Campaign Priorities AGLN: ACT II Convening A biennial convening of the Aspen Global Leadership Network, ACT II drew more than 150 AGLN Fellows from 23 countries at its second gathering in June 2009. At ACT II, participating Fellows choose from multiple concurrent roundtable discussions, project workshops and seminars, all designed to foster purposeful dialogue that can unlock solutions to making the world a better place. AGLN: “Leading in an Era of Globalization” Seminar The third of four seminars that all AGLN Fellows attend, this “mixer” seminar brings together Fellows from multiple countries and leadership initiatives. Together they analyze and discuss globalization’s impacts on economics, environmental sustainability, health care, culture, human rights, government policy, and political stability around the world, among other topics. AGLN: Alumni Seminars For AGLN Fellows, graduation is not an ending; it is the beginning of a lifetime of service to their communities and of working together to effect change. Alumni seminars reunite Fellows in more intimate settings between biennial ACT II convenings, strengthening their capacity for ongoing dialogue and collective action. Aspen Seminar For almost sixty years, the Aspen Seminar on leadership, values and the good society has challenged leaders in every field to think more critically and deeply about the good society. Participants reprioritize their values, take inspiration from their peers, and often describe the seminar experience as transformative.

THE HENRY CROWN FELLOWSHIP

The Henry Crown Fellowship Program, established in 1997, seeks to develop our next generation of community- spirited leaders, providing them with the tools necessary to meet the challenges of corporate and civic leadership in the 21st century. The program is a unique mix of intellectual and personal development seminars designed to broaden the perspectives of the participants and hone their skills in values-based leadership. It honors the memory of Chicago industrialist Henry Crown (1896-1990), whose legendary career was marked by a lifelong commitment to honor, integrity, industry and philanthropy.

The Keith Berwick Fund The Keith Berwick Chair was created in honor of Keith Berwick and his remarkable leadership of the Henry Crown Fellowship Program. Since its inception, Keith has been the guiding force of the Henry Crown program, providing the critical vision, energy and inspiration that has helped the program develop and thrive. The Keith Berwick Chair will be held by a senior mentor of the Aspen Global Leadership Network, the network linking the Henry Crown Fellowship with our growing global network of leadership initiatives.

THE CATTO FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM The Catto Fellowship Program is an adaptation of the Aspen Institute's renowned Henry Crown Fellowship Program and the Aspen Institute's other international leadership initiatives, all of which comprise the Aspen Global Leadership Network (AGLN). The Catto Fellowship seeks to grasp and resolve the indispensable values underlying leadership, as well as the common values critical for a healthy and sustainable environment. Catto Fellows are challenged to develop new insights about themselves, the role of leadership, and the need for effective collaborative action to ensure the well-being of the environment. Fellows enter the program as individual leaders and leave as leaders focused intently on collaboration and problem-solving across sectors and fields for the betterment of the world.

THE RODEL FELLOWSHIP The Aspen Institute Rodel Fellowships in Public Leadership program seeks to enhance our democracy by identifying and bringing together the nation's most promising young political leaders to explore, though study and conversation, the underlying values and principles of western democracy, the relationship between individuals and their community, and the responsibilities of public leadership; to support and inspire political leaders committed to sustaining the vision of a political system based on thoughtful and civil bipartisan dialogue; and to help America's brightest young leaders achieve their fullest potential in public service.

Participants emerge from the Aspen Seminar personally renewed, professionally re-focused, and better prepared to lead as they confront the difficult choices of our ever-changing world.

In a setting conducive to thought and fellowship, each seminar convenes a diverse group of 15-20 leaders for lively, intensive roundtable discussions led by skilled moderators.
