Through lectures by international diplomats and policy experts, panel discussions with public- and private- sector leaders, and book talks by authors and academics, the Aspen Institute offers Aspen Wye Fellows an opportunity for intimate exchange and meaningful dialogue with some of the most stimulating thinkers of our time. More than 1,200 leaders from around the world, representing business, education, the arts, and public service support the Institute programs and are invited to participate in symposia held in Aspen during the winter and summer. These symposia are designed by the Institute exclusively for the Society of Fellows. SOF donors also enjoy a wide variety of exclusive activities throughout the year, including discussion receptions in Fellows' homes in Aspen, symposia and discussions in Aspen, book events in Washington, DC and New York, and special discounts for other Institute events. Fellows also gain priority access to our public programs, such as advance notice of ticket sales for the Aspen Ideas Festival and priority seating at the McCloskey Speaker Series. Awards given in the past include Global Leadership, Corporate Achievement, Public Service, and the Henry-Crown Leadership Award. Prior honorees include Sir Richard Branson and Jeffrey Immelt for Corporate Achievement, Kofi Annan for Global Leadership, and Jeff Bezos for Henry-Crown Leadership. The date for this year’s dinner is November 4, 2010 at the Plaza Hotel. THE 17TH ANNUAL SUMMER CELEBRATION The Institute holds its annual Summer Celebration fundraiser in Aspen, Colorado each summer. Each year we honor a leader for his or her global leadership or public service. Past honorees include David McCullough and John McCain for Public Service and His Holiness the Dalai Lama for the Global Leadership Award. The date for this year’s summer celebration is August 7, 2010. Past speakers have included Senator John McCain, King Abdullah of Jordan, Justice Anthony Kennedy, Dennis Ross and other internationally renowned thought leaders. The talks are conducted at the Aspen Institute’s campus in Aspen, Colorado. Title Sponsor: $10,000 (per event) Author Series The Author Series are open to the public and attract between 350-700 attendees. These events feature best-selling authors with current titles and have included Secretary Madeleine Albright, George Soros, Andrea Mitchell, and others. The talks are conducted at the Aspen Institute’s campus in Aspen, Colorado Endowed Named Series: $1million (six discussions per year) Title Sponsor: $10,000 (per event) Community Programs The Aspen Institute offers a variety of events and programs year-round for residents of the Roaring Fork Valley. These programs range from 4-day seminars and weekly discussion groups, to moderated dinner conversations and lectures. Programs include the Great Books and Great Decisions Discussion Series, Sharing Shakespeare, the Dinner Discussion Series, the Community Great Ideas Seminar, and other programs around timely topics. The programs account for over forty events per year. Title Sponsor: $5,000-$20,000 (per series type) “Speaking to the Future” High School Speaker Series The Aspen Institute “Speaking to the Future” Series is held at Aspen High School as part of an ongoing effort to share its resources with youth. The series will run throughout each school year, and features speakers who are associated with the Institute in some way. Held during the school lunch hour, these leaders share their expertise on timely topics and inspire pragmatic questions from the student audience. Title Sponsor: $5,000 (for series of 5-6 lectures) High School Great Ideas Seminars Students selected by five high schools in the Aspen valley will participate in the annual High School Great Ideas Seminar. Modeled after the Institute’s cornerstone Aspen Seminar, this four-day program incorporates the discussion and analysis of excerpts from the Great Books series with the practice of applicable leadership and problem solving skills. The method of Socratic dialog and the emphasis of discussion and debate allow the course to delve into the core of cultural values, the origins of American democracy, and what it means to pursue Aristotle’s concept of "the good life”. Students pay a small registration fee to show their commitment to the program, but the sponsorship funds would allow the students to attend regardless of their family’s ability to pay the full tuition ($600 per student). Title Sponsor: $10,000 (per seminar) Arts & Ideas Programs The Arts & Ideas Series, held throughout the year, focuses on how the arts deepen and broaden our understanding of contemporary issues. The programs, each held two or three days, in the series will examine what all art forms — including theater, visual arts, architecture, film, television, music, ballet, poetry, fashion, and culinary arts — tell us about political, social, and economic ideas.
