To Advertise call 850-932-8986 Q: This past season was the first time you had sent wrestlers to state. Talk about Kyle Chavers and Taylor Retherford and the seasons they had. A: I would like everyone to know what an honor and privilege it is to coach two great young men like Kyle and Taylor. They worked through the growing pains of paying your dues when you learn the world’s oldest sport and they achieved success with great humility. They are two classy guys with a work ethic that will enable them to achieve what ever they pursue. They have both set the standard for all Gulf Breeze wrestlers. Q: How have you and your wrestlers passed the time this summer to improve? A: Our wrestlers worked out summer four days a week focusing on fundamentals and technique. We held a three day wrestling camp with Olympic Coach Rob Hermann. Several of our wrestlers have traveled to Oklahoma State University and the University of Minnesota for summer camps. Our wrestlers have also participated in AAU and USA Wrestling tournaments this summer. Q: Talk about your expectations for the upcoming season. A: We have three district champions and five district placers returning. There will be some interesting competitions for several weight classes on our squad. Several underclassmen have been working hard to take and keep their spot. We have some incoming fresh- men that have come from our youth wrestling program that will also be fighting for mat time. Our goal this year is to win the district title as a team, and to send many more to the state championships.
