Robinson: Social Documentation of Dance Introduction Social documentation of live performance is audience-driven: ‘unofficial’ documentation that comes from the public and the audience, not from behind the stage. This has historically manifested itself in many different ways, but it is in the 21st century that social documentation has become truly social. While I have previously written on the subject of social documentation of all live performance, I believe that ballet is a special case. It is an art form that is both archaic and innovative, elitist and accessible, and it has built up a community around itself that is constantly making their feelings on these subjects heard.
