Derby Day event draws a party crowd Saturday May 6 brought 35 members of CCKC to Bob and Terry Henn’s house to celebrate the 143rd running of the Kentucky Derby. The party was hosted by Terry Henn, Katrina Hannah and Teddie Farnsworth. These ladies did a fantastic job of planning and coordinating the event. The weather was perfect for the ladies to display their finest Derby hats, and some of the men were equally well dressed. Prior to the race we drank mint juleps and ate chicken with honey biscuits. Everyone pitched in and brought some delicious side dishes. A little friendly wager preceded the race. After we watched the race and collected our bets, it was time to enjoy a beautiful Derby-inspired cake (made by a student in the Hospitality program at JCCC) that displayed the Club logo. Everyone reported they had a great time and said they'd like to do it again next year. ~ Bob Henn

CCKC Corvettes head back to Bowling Green

Early Saturday morning on May 13, seven Corvettes with 14 people left Overland Park for adventures in Bowling Green, KY. This trip was the Club’s annual out-of-town Corvette trip led by Joe Campbell. Our early breakfast was supplemented by goodies and water provided by the Sdanos. During the drive through , we saw lots of fields that were covered with water and a “Viper on a Stick (pole)” at a car dealer in Evansville, which was just across the street from a Howard Johnsons Fireworks Stand (the ice cream business must have been bad). On Sunday we celebrated Mother’s Day at Rafferty’s before going to the National Corvette Museum for a guided tour. At the end of the tour ,we noted an unusual white and blue 500 executives.). Sunday was to end Corvette in the area where they prep the cars for with a tour of the Lost River Cave, but the recent museum delivery. We asked about this car during floods prevented our visit, so everyone adjourned our return to the museum on Monday, and were to the motel for an informal gathering with told “what Corvette?” as if it didn’t exist; but refreshments and lots of Corvette war stories. Chuck Levenson has a picture of the non-existent On Monday, the group met at the Corvette Corvette (We think it might be one of the Assembly Plant for a guided tour featuring Corvettes being prepared for use by the production of the 2017 Corvette. Following the tour, we visited the new Motorsports Park to exercise our Corvettes. We didn’t set any track records, but our group really enjoyed this experience, as evidenced by the smiles on each face. A box lunch was furnished to our group as a part of the Museum tour package. Afterwards some of the group departed under the guidance of Arnie Sdano to cruise the Great Smoky Mountains. Arnie reported they had great weather, good road conditions, no speeding tickets, wonderful companionship, and nothing to add to the “Tree of Shame.” They found the Lodge at Telico to be delightful, and the Cherohala Skyway to be the perfect warmup for running the Tail of the Dragon. They all left with a strong desire to return as soon as possible. ~Joe Campbell
