NATIONAL SHOOTING COMPLEX SAN ANTONIO, TX WELCOME TO THE NSCA 2017 NATIONAL SPORTING CLAYS CHAMPIONSHIP Ladies and Gentlemen,

On behalf of the NSCA I would like to personally welcome all competitors, sponsors, vendors, family, and friends to the 2017 National Sporting Clays Championship! THE BEST Now that all main event courses have the same number of targets (75), we have added a new feature this year—the Golden Ticket. You will be able to earn one ticket for each of those single targets that you hit which will get you into a drawing to win guns and other great prizes. Thank you to Elite for generously sponsoring this new game. Several event locations have changed since this year’s World English, so be sure to check your maps and familiarize yourself with the new locations. Please join me this week in congratulating all of the 2017 NSCA Hall of Fame inductees and award SHOOTERS recipients. The inductees for shooting achievements are Mark “Boo” Dykes and Bonnie McLaurin, and our own Peter Masch will be receiving the du Pont Service award. This year’s banquet will be held on Thursday evening at 6:30 p.m. at the Courtyard Marriott Sea World. Please see Lori Hartmann in registration to purchase your tickets if you have not already done so. Friday morning, we will again be hosting the “Ladies Tour” for our lovely guests who are not shooting and would like to visit the New Braunfels and Gruene areas. There are 23 seats available. The tour includes a stop at one of the local vineyards for a tour and wine tasting. The bus will leave at 8:15 a.m. and return at 4:30 p.m. Visit Lori Hartmann in registration for more details and to purchase your tickets. Also new this year will be our Ladies’ Day-In Program and Shooting Clinic, made possible by Blaser USA, Fiocchi, and the NSCA. The event is Friday morning at 9:00 a.m. with lunch and shooting included. Please see Glynne Moseley at the NSCA-USASCT trailer if you are interested in joining in on the fun. Opening Ceremonies will be held at 6:30 p.m. Friday in the stadium field. Immediately following, we will not only be drawing for one of the USA Sporting Clays Team Raffles—a K-80 San Remo — TRUST but we will kick off the annual Top Gun Shoot-Out as well. This year’s Top Gun event is sponsored by Shooting Glass Specialist, Blaser USA and the NSCA. Multiple prizes and awards will be given away including guns, but you must be present to win. This will be an event you won’t want to miss! Saturday night, the North vs. South Challenge returns to the stadium. Make sure you stick around to cheer for your favorite shooters and for a chance to win guns and other giveaways! During the shoot-out, we will also be drawing for the USA Sporting Clays Team Blaser F3 Black Scroll as well as the two E-Z-Go Golf Carts. We are excited to have the Golden Target scavenger hunt back this year! Keep your eyes peeled as you drive around looking for the hidden Golden Target. Sign up for the Golden Target text message updates and follow NSCA on Facebook for the clues to play along and win prizes from MEC such as trap machines and reloaders, as well as guns and other prizes from NSCA. Thank you to MEC for sponsoring the Golden Target event again and for joining the NSCA in giving out great prizes for those individuals that find the hidden targets. Last, but surely not least, Kolar Arms will continue the tradition of awarding a Championship Ring not only to the National Champion, but to the Sub-Gauge National Champion as well. Special thanks to Kolar for their generous donation to the National Championship and for their continued support of shotgun sports around the country.

Remember that our sponsors are a critical part of the National Championship and the NSCA. Our continued success is due in large part to their participation as well as all of yours. Please be sure to stop © Liquid Image Inc. by and visit all of our vendors during your stay in San Antonio; you might just find something you didn’t realize you needed until you see it.

40 41 KOLAR RING PROGRAM Kolar Arms continues their commitment to the NSCA National Championship ring program that has been in place for over two decades. Kolar President, John NATIONAL Ramagli, elaborated on the history of the program and clarified the policy in place to recognize multiple year winners. “The program has been in place since 1985 for NSSA Skeet and was initiated by former Kolar owner Don Mainland as a way to recognize National Champions in that sport. Phil Murray was the first person to win CHAMPIONSHIP RING the NSSA ring. It was adopted for sporting clays starting in the early 1990s, but we also went back and awarded rings to the NSCA National Champions who won the Nationals before the program was in place for that sport.” Ramagli said Kolar even went so far as to retrospectively award a ring to 1989 Nationals winner Jim Jamison, winner of the first ever NSCA Nationals, held at Minnesota Horse and Hunt, along with all other previous winners. In 2010 Kolar initiated a second NSCA program – the Sub Gauge Championship HOA ring, which is awarded each year to the shooter who wins the combined high sub gauge score across all three gauges at the National Championship. Sub gauge shooter extraordinaire, Scott Robertson, was the first ever NSCA Sub Gauge ring recipient. Ramagli says the sub gauge ring is a very special award – and has a distinctive look to it, setting it apart from the ring that is awarded for the Nationals’ Main Event. Ramagli explained the policy for acknowledging multiple-year Champions this way. The first time a shooter wins HOA at the Championship he is awarded a ring, which is augmented with multiple diamond chips in the ring bezel upon winning a second Championship. A third Championship earns a proportionally-sized diamond in the large stone. A second ring would be awarded upon winning a fourth Championship, should that occur. The rings are funded entirely by Kolar and are crafted by Jostens, maker of fine rings used to acknowledge championships and events by professional sports leagues like the National Football League, Major Donated by League Baseball, National Hockey League, National Basketball League and NASCAR. “We’ve committed to the ring program with the NSSA and NSCA for years to come,” said Ramagli, after having recently re-confirmed the award guidelines and protocol with NSCA Executive Council Chairman Steve Schultz and Vice Chairman for presentation to: John Calandro III, who worked with Kolar to come to a common understanding of how the program will work into perpetuity. NATIONAL SPORTING CLAYS “The Kolar ring program is just one example of how our industry partners try to raise the bar for our game of sporting clays,” said Calandro. “I am sure the top MAIN EVENT CHAMPION competitors will go out of their way to thank John for all of his extra sponsorship this past year.” By Dana Farrell BOOK YOUR SERVICE APPOINTMENT WITH 210-829-0297 A CERTIFIED KRIEGHOFF MASTER GUNSMITH 2017 NSCA HALL OF FAME Krieghoff & Blaser.
