AIVE – Calendario Regate Nazionali Vele d’Epoca: il calendario Regate Nazionali AIVE 2017 http://www.barchedepocaeclassiche.it/associazioni-e-yacht-club/494-ve... In occasione di un’affollata conferenza aperta al pubblico, tenutasi presso la Società del Giardino di Milano, l’Associazione Italiana Vele d’Epoca ha festeggiato i 35 anni del sodalizio e presentato il calendario delle regate nazionali 2017 dedicate alle imbarcazioni a vela d’epoca e classiche, composto da tredici appuntamenti che si svolgeranno tra il Mar Tirreno e l’Adriatico. All’evento hanno partecipato armatori, velisti, giornalisti e appassionati di marineria storica. Il Comandante del Gruppo Navi Scuola a Vela della Marina Militare ha illustrato la storia del glorioso yacht da competizione Corsaro II, varato nel 1961, adibito da sempre all’addestramento degli allievi ufficiali dell’Accademia Navale di Livorno. Regate e Raduni Vele d’Epoca 2017 16 Febbraio 2017 – La fastosa Sala Oro della Società del Giardino di Milano, esclusivo Circolo fondato nel 1783 con sede presso Palazzo Spinola in Via San Paolo 10, ha ospitato l’affollata conferenza di presentazione delle regate nazionali dedicate alle imbarcazioni a vela d’epoca e classiche. Presenti Matteo Rossi (Presidente AIVE), Carlo Musu (Segretario AIVE), Pier Maria Giusteschi Conti (Commodoro AIVE), Capitano di Vascello Domenico La Faia (Capo Ufficio Sport/Vela Marina Militare), Capitano di Fregata Marco Paolo Montella (Comandate Gruppo Navi Scuola a Vela della Marina Militare), Giuseppe Marino (AIVE/Società del Giardino). L’Associazione Italiana Vele d’Epoca (A.I.V.E.), nata nel 1982, ha illustrato il calendario 2017, composto da 13 appuntamenti che si svolgeranno da giugno a ottobre tra il Mare Tirreno e l’alto Adriatico. Ogni evento si svolge in maniera indipendente e in occasione di ogni regata le imbarcazioni partecipanti 2 di 4 08/03/2017 16:36 Vele d’Epoca: il calendario Regate Nazionali AIVE 2017 http://www.barchedepocaeclassiche.it/associazioni-e-yacht-club/494-ve... vengono suddivise sostanzialmente in due categorie: Epoca (varo avvenuto prima del 1950), Classiche (varo avvenuto tra il 1950 e il 1975), alle quali talvolta si aggiunge quella degli Spirit of Tradition (barche di linee tradizionali varate dopo il 1975). Chiunque, in occasione delle regate di vele d’epoca, potrà ammirare sia in porto che in navigazione questi splendidi scafi. Sarà sufficiente recarsi presso le località ospitanti e accedere alle banchine. Ogni mattina le barche usciranno in mare per la regata di giornata, per poi fare ritorno in porto nel corso del pomeriggio. Al termine dell’ultima competizione in mare si svolgeranno le premiazioni. Corsaro II, il glorioso yacht della Marina Militare Nel corso della serata il Capitano di Fregata Marco Paolo Montella, Comandante del Gruppo Navi Scuola a Vela della Marina Militare, ha illustrato la storia di Corsaro II, l’imbarcazione a vela lunga 21,26 metri varata nel 1961 presso il Cantiere Costaguta di Genova Voltri su progetto dello studio americano Sparkman & Stephens. La barca, armata a yawl bermudiano, fa parte del naviglio della Marina Militare e in oltre 50 anni di vita ha sempre addestrato gli allievi ufficiali dell’Accademia Navale di Livorno compiendo navigazioni dall’Atlantico al Pacifico e fino in Australia, soprattutto nei suoi primi anni di vita. Montella, in particolare, ha illustrato le rotte percorse dall’imbarcazione durante alcune campagne veliche compiute negli anni Sessanta, dove non erano mai meno di 10.000 le miglia percorse in ogni occasione. Nel 1986, al comando dell’Ammiraglio Cristiano Bettini (all’epoca Capitano di Fregata), ha compiuto una doppia transatlantica dall’Europa fino a New York e ritorno per celebrare il Centenario della Statua della Libertà. In quella occasione l’Hudson River è stato invaso pacificamente da migliaia di barche e velieri. Oggi il Corsaro II, che continua a compiere campagne di istruzione per i futuri comandanti della Marina Militare, partecipa spesso ai raduni di vele d’epoca insieme ad altre barche a vela della Marina (Artica II, Capricia, Caroly, Chaplin, Sagittario, Stella Polare). Al termine della conferenza Andrea Rossi di AIVE ha presentato il suo nuovo libro dedicato alla Classe 5.50 Metri S.I. (Stazza Internazionale). AIVE – Associazione Italiana Vele d’Epoca L’Associazione Italiana Vele d’Epoca è stata costuita nel 1982 con lo scopo di preservare il patrimonio storico, arsco e tecnico costuito dagli yacht d’epoca, vara prima del 1950, e classici, vara fino al 1975. Il sodalizio, che ha sede a Genova presso lo Yacht Club Italiano, è un’associazione di classe riconosciuta dalla FIV (Federazione Italiana Vela) per gli yacht a vela d’epoca e classici. In 35 anni di avità l’AIVE ha organizzato e patrocinato decine di regate veliche, realizzato pubblicazioni sullo yachng e promosso incontri vol a diffondere la cultura delle imbarcazioni d’epoca. Un archivio composto da 500 volumi raccoglie oggi la storia della vela e i piani costruvi di oltre 1500 yacht scheda. L’AIVE fa parte del C.I.M., il Comitato Internazionale del Mediterraneo fondato nel 1926, che emana la normava relava alle regate di barche d’epoca.     211 The America's Cup and the Law of Trusts: Mercury Bay Boating Club's 1988 K-Boat Challenge Peter Grainger German* The author examines the litigation surrounding the 27th America's Cup regatta. The author argues that the deed of gift did not permit a defence of the Cup with a catamaran, and that even if it did, the San Diego Yacht Club failed to satisfy its fiduciary obligation of acting in the utmost good faith towards the Mercury Bay Boating Club. Finally, the author argues that the deed of gift is more accurately described as a non- charitable purpose trust for factual beneficiaries. I INTRODUCTION On July 17 1987, Sir Michael Fay issued a letter of challenge for the America’s Cup to San Diego Yacht Club ("SDYC"; ”San Diego”). He could not then have foreseen that an air of ill-will and acrimony would so pervade the 27th America's Cup regatta as to demonstrate its fragility "...in the face of die amoral quest for betterment, the hunger to win at any cost, even at the cost of destroying the game."*1 The waters of San Diego Bay played host to two races for yachting's not-so-holy grail on September 7 and September 9 1988. SDYC's 60 foot catamaran Stars & Stripes defeated Mercury Bay Boating Club's 132.8 foot keeled monohull New Zealand2 in both races, making the scheduled third contest unnecessary.3 On the water at least, therefore, San Diego successfully defended the 27th America's Cup (the "Cup"). * This article was written as part of the LLB(Hons) programme.

The follow- ing is something you might consider as a fun event for your yacht club or group. Ventura Yacht Club has done this twice, and, each time, we attracted over a dozen boats to participate. Everyone had a lot of laughs, and the competition was intense. The rules are simple, and the only equipment required is a vessel and a compass. It can be done in a harbor, marina, or part of an afternoon’s entertainment during a destina- tion club cruise.
