KEY WORDS: Reduviidae, Reduviinae, Gardena melinarthrum, new record, India The genus Gardena Dohrn belonging to the division Emesaria of the subfamily Emesinae under the family Reduviidae of Heteroptera (Hemiptera). The genus Gardena was named by Dohrn in 1859 with Ceylonese melinarthrum (sic) as the only species included, but this species and the genus itself were not described by Dohrn until 1860. Numerous additional species of Gardena have since been described from many parts of the world. Distant (1903) has described and recorded species, bicolour Distant, near Rangoon: Myanmar and recorded the species melinarthrum Dohrn from Sri Lanka under the genus Gardena. He further (1909) described the species fasciata under the genus Gardena. McAtee & Malloch (1926) expressed their doubt about the status of the species Gardena bicolour Distant, considering it is a probable synonym of melinarthrum described by Dohrn from Myanmar. -
Zum 70. Geburtstag Von Dr. Hannes GÜNTHER
Fauna Flora Rheinland-Pfalz 11: Heft 2, 2008, S. 625-634. Landau Zum 70. Geburtstag von Dr. Hannes G ü n t h e r von Manfred Niehuis Am 20. Dezember 2006 feierte Dr. Hannes G ünther seinen 70. Geburtstag. -

First Records of Metapterus Caspicus from Greece (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Emesinae)
Published December 28, 2011 Klapalekiana, 47: 165–168, 2011 ISSN 1210-6100 First records of Metapterus caspicus from Greece (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Emesinae) První nálezy Metapterus caspicus z Řecka (Hemiptera: Heteroptera: Reduviidae: Emesinae) Leonidas Romanos DAVRANOGLOU Evzonon 11 Street, Kolonaki, Athens, Greece; email: [email protected] Heteroptera, Reduviidae, Emesinae, Metapterus caspicus, Metapterus linearis, distribution, Greece Abstract. The first two confirmed records of Metapterus caspicus Dohrn, 1863 from Greece are presented. The possibility of the occurrence of the related M. linearis A. Costa, 1862 in Greece is discussed, but, due to the lack of voucher specimens it should be excluded from the Greek fauna for the time being. INTRODUCTION The genus Metapterus A. Costa, 1862 belongs to the family Reduviidae, subfamily Emesi- nae, and tribe Metapterini. The genus includes two species, Metapterus linearis A. Costa, 1862 and M. caspicus Dohrn, 1863, distributed in southern and eastern Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and possibly also in North Africa (Putshkov & Putshkov 1996, Davido- vá-Vilímová & Kment 2003, Putshkov & Moulet 2010). Puton (1880) synonymised Emesa caspica Dohrn, 1863, Mantisoma aptera Jakovlev, 1873 (both described from European Russia) and Emesa dohrni Douglas & Scott, 1868 (described from Jericho in Palestine) with M. linearis. This situation remained unchanged for a century, until Putshkov (1984) revised the genus Metapterus and recognized two distinct species: M. caspicus (with Mantisoma aptera as a junior synonym), and M. linearis (with Emesa dohrni as a supposed junior synonym) (cf. Putshkov & Putshkov 1996). However, the confusion of the species in the past seriously complicates the interpretation of earlier records, and the distribution of both Metapterus species remains poorly known (cf. -

St. Andrews (Maur.) (Maur.) Department of Zoology & Applied Entomology, Imperial College of Science & Technology, South Kensington, London, S.W.7. March, 1965. 162. VOL.Z. XMFennahius+: A new genus of KINNARIDAE (Hemiptera - Fulgoroidea) common to Mauritius and Reunion. The KINNARIDAE show affinities with the CIXIIDAE not merely in their general overall resemblance, but in a number of morphological points to which attention has already been drawn by Muir and other workers, e.g., Metcalf, Fennah, Synave. Conventionally separated from one another by wing-venation, the quite dissimilar structure of the male genitalia confirms that the difference is of familial rank. The presence of wax-producing areas on the sixth, seventh and eighth tergites (vide Plate 18f - top left preparation) of the adult female is a character shared with the MEENOPLIDAE but not the CIXIIDAE. It is rather unfortunate that the members of the family have never been the subject of a special study. Examination of some of their characters (e.g., ? genitalia and text) suggests that in many features they present significant departures from the standard fulgoroid pattern. The presence of a large bursa-copulatrix and reduced valvulae (vide Plate 18b) in Paramicrixia diaphana makes investigation of the live insect highly desirable.
