Fylde Beachcare End of Year Report 2019-20 Fylde BeachCare April 2019 - March 2020 Summary It’s been another great year for LOVEmyBEACH along the Fylde Coast, with the launch of exciting new projects and more beach cleans taking place than ever before! We continue to support 13 volunteer led beach clean groups along the Fylde Coast and have seen a huge increase in the number of corporate groups taking part this year. Our army of dedicated volunteers have been recognised with 2 awards—Blackpool Tower’s Local Heroes and BBC Radio Lancashire Community Project of the Year (Highly Commended). We have recently launched a new campaign, called WOOP! which encourages teenage girls to switch to sustainable alternatives to bathroom products and behaviours. LOVEmyBEACH continues to be a locally prominent voice in the quest to protect our marine environment, improve bathing water quality and encourage positive behaviours on the beach, at home and in the workplace. Thank you to all our volunteers, supporters, funders and partner organisations for your ongoing support. Take a look to find out more! The Fylde Coast volunteers won two awards this year, in recognition for their incredible beach cleaning efforts! They were collectively named as Local Heroes to celebrate Blackpool Tower’s 125th Anniversary. A group of 40 volunteers from beach clean groups along the Fylde Coast were treated to afternoon tea and an evening of dancing inside the famous Tower Ballroom. Within the same month LOVEmyBEACH was nominated as “Community Project of the Year” by BBC Radio Lancashire. After some filming and interviews on the beach, 3 group leaders were invited to a formal awards ceremony in Blackburn. It was a fantastic evening, with a lovely three course meal and the opportunity to hear about so many wonderful projects and inspirational individuals throughout Lancashire. The strangest part of the award ceremonies was seeing everyone in their “normal” clothes, rather than in wellies and waterproofs! Although our volunteers don’t beach clean for the praise or recognition and many don’t consider themselves “heroes”, these awards go to show that their dedication to helping the environment and keeping our coastlines clean throughout the year is something to be extremely proud of. Weekly update Up to and including SATURDAY 21ST FEBRUARY 2015 Today’s update covers the seven day period between Sunday 15th February 2015 through to Saturday 21st February 2015. You are reading today’s update on the first day of March. That means of course the February Manager of the Month has fin- ished. In this update we still have seven days to run so let’s have a look at who is in the running to take the February 2015 cash. Leading the way after 21 days of the month is JesusOfSuburbia who have 1,269pts and they are currently 33pts ahead of second placed Stripes United and 43pts ahead of third placed Azura. The top ten is covered by only 70pts and as always it will come down to who has the most league leaders come the end of the month. At the bottom where of course £50 is up for grabs each month we have Helens BootX with 326pts they are 38pts adrift from their nearest rival Silly Sods. The bottom ten is covered by 67pts so once again it is going to be a close finish. Finally a quick note about a point’s adjustment within the main body of the FNL competition. Back in December 2014 Maidstone Utd lost a Robert Dyas League Cup game against Tonbridge Angels 4-0. Tonbridge Angels were then removed from the competition for playing an ineligible player. As the game was a third round tie Tonbridge were awarded 25pts for reaching the quarter final of the competition. I have removed those 25pts from Tonbridge and given them to Maidstone Utd.

  • BFGC History
The Curious History of Three Blackpool and Fylde Gliding Clubs. 1930 1950 1969 We got our nickname when we made training circuits, but were able to do very little soaring. Then we bought a farm in Fiddlers Lane. @BFGC 2019 The Full History of the Blackpool and Fylde Gliding Club since 1930 Introduction The active gliding club at Chipping has a continuous history since 1950 and ample records of activities and developments. This is a happy outfit based on self-help. It has not out-grown reliance on effort freely offered, has not felt the need to employ staff, but has kept an excellent spirit among its members. These ideas allowed us to grow steadily with sound finances, while holding fees and charges as low as possible, hence allowing many people to contribute in very valuable ways. Our history is well worth recording while some of the original people are able to collate and decipher the early papers, put names to faces on the photographs, and reminisce. Previous gliding activities in Lancashire started from 1910, and have been included because of their great interest, and because they have largely gone without mention elsewhere. The Leeming-Prince-Wood glider of 1924 was flown in Manchester. The English Electric Wren of 1923 was made in Preston, a motor glider years ahead of its time. Two local gliding clubs were formed in 1930, at Preston and Blackpool. An ATC gliding school in Blackpool from 1942-1948 helped to sow seeds for the eventual Blackpool & Fylde Gliding Club. Jack Aked was the proprietor and his story is told in some detail; sometimes it will appear that we thought he was inhibiting development, perhaps he was more wise than we gave him credit, but he is remembered with affection and thanks for the very great contributions he made in so many ways to the successful founding of this thriving club, between 1950 and his death in 1979.
