  • IME Annual Report 2020-2021 Low Size
Supported by Annual Report 2020-2021 Only in the darkness can “ you see the stars. ― Martin Luther King “ Namaste We have collectively endured one of the defining experiences of our life and times. What started off as a pause in the hustle and bustle of daily life has now become a happening that will forever define the way we see the world. Many of us experienced loss – of loved ones, of time, of precious moments, and of a sense of normalcy. There were days when I questioned everything, and felt the meaninglessness of it all. At the same time, I realized that the future is built one day at a time, by the seemingly small actions we take each day; that, as Martin Luther King said, everything that is done in the world is done by hope. And so, we see ourselves looking back at a most strange year, but one that I am glad to report has been extremely productive for the Indian Music Experience Museum, in our mission to build community through music. The team at IME seamlessly adapted to the online world. We ensured the continuity of music education at the Learning Centre. We unveiled two new online exhibits through an important partnership with Google Art and Culture. Our work in preserving musical traditions achieved an important milestone through the creation of an online archive on the life and works of legendary violinist and composer, Mysore T. Chowdiah, in collaboration with the Shankar Mahadevan Academy. We presented a wide variety of talks, discussions, workshops, showcases, and exhibit walkthroughs online, growing our audience beyond the geographic limitations of in-person events.

Parvez Rana, Hassan Askari, Z.A. Zulfi, Pappu Samrat, Syed Noor, Babar Butt, and literally everyone else I met in the film industry were welcoming and hospitable beyond what I ever could have hoped or imagined. The cast and crew of Sharabi, in particular, went above and beyond to facilitate my research and make sure I was at all times comfortable and safe and had answers to whatever stupid questions I was asking that day! Along with their kindness, I was privileged to witness their industry, creativity, and perseverance, and I will be eternally inspired by and grateful to them. My committee might seem large at seven members, but all of them have been incredibly helpful and supportive throughout my time in graduate school, and each of them have helped develop different dimensions of this work.

  • Hon'ble Speaker Sir, with Your Permission I Lay the 2017-18
Hon’ble Speaker Sir, With your permission I lay the 2017-18 Annual Financial Statement before this August House. 1 The people of Bengal have again reposed their faith in the Government of Maa, Mati, Manush, led by Hon’ble Chief Minister, Smt. Mamata Banerjee. Inspired by the trust and faith of the people we were continuing with the development at a fast pace. Suddenly, people of West Bengal and rest of India were shattered with the blow of demonetisation. There is no example in the history of the world when 86 percent of the currency has been demonetised in one go in any democratic country. A few countries where this has been tried in the past were all under dictatorial regime. You are all aware that Hon’ble Chief Minister was the first in the country to oppose the move of demonetisation and she vehemently denounced demonetisation. She said that this foolhardy decision will cripple the life of common people and the economy of the nation. She urged the Central Government to immediately roll back the decision of demonetisation. Today we can see that the country’s GDP in 2015-16 is on the decline. As per the assessment of the national and international economists, the GDP growth will decline by 1 percent to 3·5 percent, that means the country’s total financial loss may be Rs. 1·5 lakh crores to Rs. 3·25 lakh crores. Therefore, it can be said that we are passing through a financial and political emergency. The adverse effect of demonetisation is now amply reflected on the employment and life of the common people.
