Wanneroo Road and Drive Interchange Construction Update

Construction of the Road and Interchange project is set to begin in November Barrier installation will begin at the intersection of and Joondalup Drive, in early November, allowing construction works to start on the new interchange. Barriers will also be installed on the northern side of , in preparation for works to improve capacity and traffic flow. Two bus stops on Joondalup Drive will be temporary closed while works are underway. Alternative bus stops will be in operation during this period, located a short walking distance along Joondalup Drive (see map below for reference). The map below highlights in yellow the approximate location of the barriers and the areas in orange where crews will be working. The red dots indicate the bus stops which will be closed and the green dot points highlight adjacent stops.

During the works, some of the pedestrian and cycle paths will need to be temporarily relocated. Please follow signage and stay on marked pathways wherever possible. Further potholing, to locate underground services, will be undertaken during night works, commencing Monday 29 October 2018.

Construction works – early November 2018 Following the installation of barriers, early activity will focus on construction of the new roundabout at Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive, as well as improving the existing Burns Beach Road and Joondalup Drive roundabout. Works will include earthworks, drainage and paving, and will require the use of excavators, loaders, rollers, dump trucks, graders, bob cats, water carts and light vehicles. Works will be undertaken during daytime hours between 7am and 7pm until late February 2019.

Night works schedule Commencing 29 October 2018 For intermittent nights during a two-week period, starting Monday 29 October, underground services location will be undertaken in the intersection of Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive. The works are required to be completed before major construction works commence in November. Equipment to used for these works will include a vacuum truck, a truck mounted attenuator and light vehicles.

Commencing early to mid-November 2018 To install the barriers, work crews will be required to work at night for approximately two weeks starting early to mid-November. Barriers will be installed on all four corners of the Wanneroo Road and Joondalup Drive intersection, and on the northern side of Burns Beach Road roundabout. Machinery required during night works includes traffic attenuator, semi-trailer, small mobile crane and light vehicles. All night works will be carried out Monday to Friday 7pm to 5am, and will involve lane closures to ensure the safety of motorists and work crews during these times. To minimise disturbance to residents as much as possible, an out-of-hours noise management plan has been prepared by CPB Contractors and approved by the and .

What do road users need to do?

• Be aware of changing traffic conditions. • Follow the signage and speed limits. • Watch out for people and heavy machinery working in the area • Be aware of the new barriers installed on the roads as well as minor line marking changes. • Go to www.transperth.wa.gov.au for more information on the bus stop changes.
