Rail Improvements Impact Journeys on the Tarka Line
Rail improvements impact journeys on the Tarka Line April 12, 2021 The railway line between Barnstaple and Crediton is closed for nine days for track improvement and platform extension work. From Saturday 10 to Sunday 18 April buses will replace trains between Barnstaple and Crediton. Buses will be timed to connect with trains which will continue to run between Crediton and Exeter. A separate shuttle bus will serve Yeoford, connecting with trains at Crediton. As part of these rail improvements, Network Rail will be working day and night on a number of important upgrades. At Lapford and Kings Nympton stations engineers will be working to renew the ballast that supports the track, whilst at Eggesford station platforms 1 and 2 will be extended and new lighting, drainage and fencing will be installed. There will also be a range of work to a number of bridges on the Tarka Line. At Penstone repairs are being made to the under bridge including replacing the existing wrought–iron deck with a new standard steel deck; near Coleford the track and bridge at Battesford is being removed and then inﬁlled; and at Yeoford bridge engineers will remove the track, carrying out steelwork repairs, grit blasting, painting and waterprooﬁng the bridge. GWR Station Manager for the branch line, Melanie Harvey, thanked passengers in advance for their patience and reminded them of the changes ahead which these improvement works are helping to bring. Plymouth Sound and Estuaries Water
Foreword As partners of the Tamar Estuaries Consultative Forum (TECF) we acknowledge the recommendations outlined in the Plymouth Sound and Estuaries Water Transportation Study in principal, and are prepared to broadly support these recommendations through the work of each of our individual organisations. It is recognised that there are a number of water transportation related projects currently being investigated. Feasibility studies and other information searches being undertaken as part of these projects will contribute to further clarify, the viability and sustainability of a water transportation network, and the options for integrating water transportation with other transportation systems. These studies will also contribute to providing a more focused assessment of the shore-based infrastructure and service requirements and an overview of the potential employment opportunities that would be generated. Relying on the Water Transportation Study as a basis for information, additional, more detailed information, especially that generated from primary data collection and analysis, will be integrated, in order to support and inform decision makers in the wider strategic debate on the future integrated transport proposals for Plymouth and the Tamar Estuaries. It is noted that all initiatives contributing to the development of water transportation in the estuary and sound, place primary importance on reducing environmental risk.
